Cannot we just order from the chip shop?

If you do order from a chip shop, ring well ahead and collect as close to eating time as you can. For a crowd, a van is typically simpler.

A DIY buffet works for small groups. For larger numbers, or when you want hot food, a van takes the pressure off, and you get to enjoy the day.

How the day works

On the day, we park up on the agreed spot, set up and heat the fryers. Once we are hot, we cook to order, timed around your shoot. On a winter shoot near Warfield Park, the light goes by about 3:55pm, so a late lunch or wrap at base needs lighting. Summer shoots have daylight until about 9:25pm.

  1. First, the plan: what, where and what time.
  2. You hear back on the date and the price.
  3. The van’s spot is fixed in advance, and how it gets in.
  4. Batter, fish and chips all go into the fryer as people come up.
  5. We leave the spot as we found it.

How to prepare

  • Check the way in for low branches, cables and narrow gates
  • Keep space clear for crew at the hatch
  • Think about a gazebo by the van in case of rain
