Film set catering in Wellhouse, cooked to order

Shoot days are long, and a hot lunch on time matters. We park at the unit base and cook to order. For ad shoots and live events and broadcasts, we’ll put together a menu of mushy peas, pie and chips and sausage and chips and more.

Near Wellhouse, crews may be miles from anywhere to eat, so lunch at base matters. Tell us about dietary needs and allergies when you enquire, and we will be straight with you about what we can do before booking.

A closer look at the menu

Mushy peas

Mushy peas are a must for plenty of fish and chip fans.

Pie and chips

A pie and chips is proper comfort food, and it is a favourite in colder months.

DIY versus a fish and chip van

Some hosts try a takeaway order. The problem is timing: big orders take a long time, and the food is cooling while it travels. A van solves that by cooking on site.

You could do a chip-shop run for everyone yourself, but it rarely works for a crowd. Long waits and a drive home mean food arrives lukewarm and soggy. With a van, it is fried on the spot.

Questions from Wellhouse

Do you come to venues in the North Wessex Downs National Landscape?

Yes. Some venues there have rules about vehicles and ground, so check with yours. We’ll work to whatever the site needs.

Is Wellhouse close to London?

About 50 miles from central London, and well within our area.

How much is fish and chip van hire?

We quote for each booking, based on your numbers and timings. Tell us your date and rough numbers and we’ll reply with a price.

What does the van need?

Less than you might think: a hard surface or firm, dry grass, that the van can reach easily. If in doubt, send a photo.

Do you cater wrap parties?

Yes, and crews love it. Send us the date and place.

Can coeliacs eat the battered fish?

Not as standard: batter is normally made with wheat flour. Let us know and we’ll tell you what we can do.

Do you cover Wellhouse?

Yes, we do. Wellhouse is one of the places we cover. Tell us your date and we will check availability.

What areas do you cover?

We cover London and the South East, including West Berkshire. Find your area.

Looking after everyone

Dietary needs are easiest to plan with some notice. We suggest:

  • Tell us about coeliac crew specifically
  • Have a back-up for special diets
  • Name a contact in the production office
  • Ask for dietary needs on the crew info form

A short menu keeps the line moving.

A quick pre-order speeds things up.

How the day works

We need a level, firm place to park the van, close to where people will eat, which we agree with you beforehand. At midsummer, Wellhouse has light until about 9:25pm.

  1. Send us your date, numbers and address.
  2. We check access for the van and quote.
  3. We arrive early to park and heat the fryers.
  4. Fish goes into the batter and straight into the fryer, to order.
  5. Service is straight from the hatch, then we pack up.

How to prepare

  • Confirm the van is allowed on site
  • Think about a gazebo by the van in case of rain
  • Give us a contact for the day
