Fish and chip van for events in Adelphi

Fish and chip van for events for your event in Adelphi

The van is self-sufficient on the pitch, so we need little help from busy volunteers. On the menu are chips, cod and chips and haddock and chips, and typical bookings are for agricultural and country shows and school fairs and sports days.

In Adelphi, community events include street parties, school fairs and markets. Organisers usually need council permission for public spaces, and we need a pitch the van can reach. The menu is short on purpose: fewer choices means fresher food and shorter queues.

Common questions in Adelphi

What about parking in Adelphi?

London parking needs planning: let us know about off-street space or permits. We’ll work around it.

Could you trade in Victoria Embankment Gardens?

Only with permission from the park’s owner, typically the council. Check with them first.

Do you pay a pitch fee?

That varies: a pitch fee, a share of takings or a guaranteed minimum. We’ll agree terms before the day.

What happens if it rains?

We cook inside the van, so rain does not stop us. It is worth planning some cover for the queue.

Which areas do you serve?

We take the van across London and the South East, Greater London included. See all areas.

Can you cater for helpers?

Yes. Give us numbers and a time.

Is the fish gluten-free?

Not as standard: batter is typically made with wheat flour. Let us know and we’ll tell you what we can do.

Can the van come to Adelphi?

Yes, we do. Adelphi is one of the places we cover. Tell us your date and we’ll check availability.

Should I sort the food myself?

Not sure whether to order in or book a van? Consider your numbers and how fresh you want it. Ask us for a quote and compare.

Ordering from a local shop? Call ahead and collect at the last minute. For a crowd, a van is typically simpler.

What the van needs

Plenty of places work for the van, but a few things matter:

  • Vehicle access before the gates open and after they close
  • Room in front of the hatch for a queue that does not block walkways
  • Confirmation the van can trade there

As a London location, Adelphi is inside the Ultra Low Emission Zone, and parking takes planning: tell us about driveways, yards, car parks or a council parking suspension.

If you’re unsure, send a photo of the space and the way in, and we’ll say what we think.

Diets, allergies and planning

Most events have a few visitors with dietary needs. To look after them:

  • Have other stalls for special diets
  • Ask traders for allergen information to display
  • Agree when volunteers will eat
  • Settle the pitch terms early

Agree a wet-weather pitch on hard standing.

A sign at the entrance tells visitors hot food is available.

Planners, venues and businesses

For big groups, the service window matters, so we can plan how to keep the queue short. Sending people up in groups helps.

Venues often have their own rules about outside caterers and vehicles: where a van can park, access times and the paperwork they want. Send us your venue’s requirements and we’ll confirm what we can provide.

Sausage and chips

For anyone who does not fancy fish, there’s sausage and chips, and children love it.

Haddock and chips

Haddock has a slightly sweeter flavour and a firmer flake. In the north and in Scotland, haddock is the classic.

Prices and what affects them

We’ll give you a clear quote. The main things that affect it are:

  • The day of the week
  • The length of service
  • How many people are eating
  • Travel, tolls and road charges

Many fish and chip vans set a minimum, because the van, fuel and travel cost the same for a small group. Ask us what applies to your event.

What we need to know

We can quote more accurately with a few details. Here’s what to include:

  • Roughly how many people, including children
  • Your date and serving time
  • The address or venue name
  • A photo of the space and the way in

Every quote is worked out for your event. Start with your date, and we’ll confirm whether we are available that day.

The process

It’s a relaxed, well-organised set-up. Arrival and serving times are agreed beforehand, set up where we’ve agreed, and get on with frying and serving. Summer events in Adelphi have daylight until about 9:20pm at midsummer and about 7:05pm by late September, so evening trading generally finishes in daylight in high summer. Winter fairs, dark by about 3:55pm, need a well-lit pitch.

  1. Start with three things: the date, the place and a rough headcount.
  2. Show us where the van would go, and we will confirm it works.
  3. A week or so before, we confirm timings and numbers.
  4. We park, open the hatch and start frying for your visitors.
  5. Last portion served, we tidy up and head off.

Getting ready for the day

  • Share the timings for the day
  • Plan where the queue will stand
  • Give us your final numbers and allergies
