Fish and chip van for events in Aston Clinton, fried fresh

We bring the van and everything we need to cook, so we need little help from busy volunteers. We’re often asked to cater music and food festivals and charity fundraisers and community events, with chips, sausage and chips and curry sauce.

Events near Aston Clinton are frequently volunteer-run, so a self-sufficient van helps. We cook inside the van, right where your visitors are, and the food reaches them hot and crisp.

Planning for dietary needs

With a little notice, diets are easier to plan for. Our advice:

  • Offer a choice of traders where you can
  • Set a time for helpers’ food
  • Share last year’s numbers if you have them
  • Let us know about allergy rules on site

When the event closes, we pack up.

Tables and seating nearby help families eat.

How to compare vans

Organising for someone else?

If you are organising for someone else, whether you are a planner, a facilities manager or an organiser, we will work directly with you and the venue. It keeps things simple.

Venues frequently have their own rules about outside caterers and vehicles: parking spots, arrival times and documents. Send us your venue’s requirements and we’ll confirm what we can provide.

Space, access and the venue

We will agree the van’s spot with you before the day. A good spot ticks these boxes:

  • A back-up spot if the ground is soft
  • Confirmation the van can trade there
  • Room in front of the hatch for a queue that doesn’t block walkways

If you’re unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we’ll say what we think before you book.

From the hatch

  • Haddock and chips
  • Chips
  • Cod and chips
  • Sausage and chips
  • Curry sauce
  • Mushy peas

Aston Clinton questions

Can the van go to venues in the Chilterns National Landscape?

Yes. Some venues there have rules about vehicles and ground, so check with yours. We will work to whatever the site needs.

Can you come to a school fair in Aston Clinton?

Yes, if the school is happy for the van on site. Tell us the date and pitch details.

Do you have a kids’ option?

Children are very welcome. Let us know numbers, and we’ll plan for them.

Is everything cooked fresh?

Yes. We cook inside the van, so food is cooked there and then, rather than made in advance.

Do you do anything other than fish?

We serve sausages and pies as well as fish. Let us know about any other dietary needs and we will tell you what we can offer.

What does it cost to hire the van?

Every booking is quoted individually, based on your numbers and timings. Tell us your date and rough numbers and we will reply with a price.

Can the van park on grass?

Frequently, if the ground is firm and dry. Soft, wet ground can trap any vehicle, so have a hard-surface back-up.

What if the weather’s bad?

We carry on in the rain, because the cooking happens inside. Soft ground after heavy rain is the bigger issue, so have a hard-surface spot in mind.

Should I sort the food myself?

Frying for a crowd at home isn’t a good idea: big pans of hot oil, children and garden parties do not mix. Leave the frying to a van built for it.

Ordering from a local shop? Call ahead and collect at the last minute. For anything more than a handful of people, a van is normally the easier option.

Why fried-to-order beats a buffet

Compared with a barbecue run by volunteers, a chip van frees your helpers. Most vans have a minimum charge, because the van, fuel and travel cost the same for a small group. We’ll tell you up front.

Why us?

  • Nothing for you to cook or clear
  • Something for visitors to gather round
  • Fish and chips fried fresh on site
  • We cook inside the van, whatever the weather

What happens on the day

We need a level, firm place to park the van, near your visitors, which we agree with you beforehand. Summer events in Aston Clinton have daylight until about 9:25pm at midsummer and about 7:05pm by late September, which helps evening trading. Winter fairs, dark by about 3:55pm, need a well-lit pitch.

  1. Start with three things: the date, the place and a rough headcount.
  2. A photo of the parking spot helps us check the van will fit.
  3. A week or so before, we confirm timings and numbers.
  4. We park, open the hatch and start frying for your visitors.
  5. Last portion served, we tidy up and head off.

Before we arrive

  • Confirm the van is allowed on site
  • Send us final numbers and any allergies in good time
  • Have a level parking spot ready
