About our fish and chip van for events in Kingsash

We bring the van and everything we need to cook, so we need little help from busy volunteers. We’re often asked to cater summer fairs and charity fundraisers and community events, serving cod and chips, curry sauce and sausage and chips.

At a fête or show near Kingsash, we can bring hot food to a field. Ground and access matter, so tell us about them. Food is served straight from the hatch, so every portion is hot, and service is quick once we’re up and running.

Our booking checklist

For planners, venues and organisers

For larger numbers, tell us how long you have for food, so we can plan how to keep the queue short. Staggering groups helps a lot.

Many venues set rules for catering vans: parking spots, arrival times and documents. Send us your venue’s requirements and we’ll work through them with you.

Your questions about a fish and chip van for your event in Kingsash

How far is Kingsash from London?

About 31 miles from central London, and we cover it as standard.

What’s the nearest station to Kingsash?

The closest is Wendover station, roughly 2 miles away.

Can you trade at our fête or festival?

Yes, where the date suits. Send us the date, location and expected numbers.

When should we book?

As soon as you have a date. Peak dates go quickly, so it pays to ask early.

How fast is service?

A short menu and staggered groups keep things moving. Tell us your timings and we will advise.

What are the terms for events?

We’ll talk it through when you send the details, and we’ll find something that works.

Is the fish gluten-free?

Standard batter is made with wheat flour, so battered fish contains gluten. Tell us about coeliac visitors when you enquire, and we will tell you honestly what we can offer.

What happens if it rains?

The weather does not stop the van, because the fryers are inside. Soft ground after heavy rain is the bigger issue, so have a hard-surface spot in mind.

Planning for dietary needs

We need to know about dietary needs and allergies in advance, and we will tell you honestly what we can offer. To get it right:

  • Plan something for visitors we can’t cater for
  • Agree when volunteers will eat
  • Give us an idea of numbers
  • Arrange bins and waste collection

Mark out the queue area away from walkways.

Pre-selling meal tickets helps us plan.

Can’t we just order from the chip shop?

Deep-frying for lots of people at home is risky: big pans of hot oil, children and garden parties don’t mix. A van is designed for exactly this.

If you do order from a chip shop, ring well ahead and collect as close to eating time as you can. For anything more than a handful of people, a van is normally the easier option.

Step by step

Expect a friendly, organised set-up. Arrival and serving times are agreed beforehand, set up where we’ve agreed, and get on with frying and serving. For an evening event in Kingsash, sunset is about 8:55pm in late May and 9:25pm in late June; after dark, we need a lit pitch.

  1. Get in touch with the basics: when, where and roughly how many.
  2. A photo of the parking spot helps us check the van will fit.
  3. A week or so before, we confirm timings and numbers.
  4. The van rolls up, the hatch opens and the fryers get going for your visitors.
  5. Last portion served, we tidy up and head off.

Getting ready for the day

  • Confirm the van is allowed on site
  • Plan where the queue will stand
  • Share the timings for the day

Planning help

Space, access and the venue

The van has to be able to get in and park safely, and a little planning goes a long way. Here’s what we look for:

  • Information about power and water
  • Room in front of the hatch for a queue that does not block walkways
  • Agreement from the site for a catering van

Not sure about the spot? Send us a photo and we will tell you honestly before you book.

From the hatch

  • Cod and chips
  • Haddock and chips
  • Mushy peas
  • Sausage and chips

Why fried-to-order beats a buffet

At bigger events, a chip van works alongside other traders. Most vans have a minimum charge, because the van, fuel and travel cost the same for a small group. We will tell you up front.

  • Classic food your visitors already know

What comes out of the fryer

Curry sauce

Some people will not eat chips without curry sauce, so we bring it along.

Mushy peas

Proper mushy peas start with dried marrowfat peas. They’re the classic side with fish and chips.

  • Fried fresh to order in the van at your event
  • Cod, haddock and chips, sausages and pies
  • The van comes to you: homes, venues, workplaces and fields
  • Served at the time you choose, from the hatch
