Fish and chip van for events in The Valley, cooked to order

School fairs and sports days work well with a chip van, once the school agrees where the van goes. Popular choices include curry sauce, mushy peas and sausage and chips, and typical bookings are for feeding event crew and agricultural and country shows.

A fête near The Valley might be on a field with no mains power; tell us what’s available and we will plan around it. The fryers are in the van, so the cooking happens right there at your event, and the food reaches them hot and crisp.

Looking after everyone

With a bit of planning, dietary needs are easier to handle. Here are a few tips:

  • Offer a choice of traders where you can
  • Share pitch details
  • Give us an idea of numbers
  • Share any nut or allergy policies

At the end, we pack down and leave the pitch clean.

Let visitors know there is a chip van.

Your questions about a fish and chip van for your event in The Valley

Could you trade in Spuckles and Kennelling Woods?

Only with permission from the park’s owner, normally the council. Ask them first, and tell us what they say.

How far is The Valley from London?

About 42 miles from central London, and we cover it as standard.

Does the batter contain gluten?

Standard batter is made with wheat flour, so battered fish contains gluten. Let us know about coeliac visitors in advance, and we will tell you honestly what we can offer.

When should we book?

As early as you can, especially for summer weekends and December. Ask about your date even if it’s soon.

How do you charge at fêtes?

That varies: pitch fee, percentage or minimum. We will agree it in writing.

Can you come to a school event?

We do. We will need a safe route onto the site away from children.

What about visitors who do not eat fish?

We serve sausages and pies as well as fish. Let us know about any other dietary needs and we’ll tell you what we can offer.

What do you need on the pitch?

A firm pitch with space for a queue. Mention any power or water.

A chip van compared with other options

At larger events, a van adds to the mix. Many fish and chip vans set a minimum, since getting the van there costs the same however many eat. We’ll tell you up front.

How the day works

Rain does not stop the fryers, because the cooking happens inside the van. Visitors will still appreciate a bit of cover near the hatch. Summer events in The Valley have daylight until about 9:15pm at midsummer and about 7:00pm by late September, which helps evening trading. Winter fairs, dark by about 3:50pm, need a well-lit pitch.

  1. First, the plan: what, where and what time.
  2. You hear back on the date and the price.
  3. The van’s spot is fixed in advance, and how it gets in.
  4. On the day, everything is cooked to order, so nothing sits in a hot cabinet.
  5. The pitch is left tidy when we go.

Preparing for the day

  • Clear the route for the van
  • Plan a bit of cover near the hatch if rain is likely
  • Let us know the serving time

Plenty of places work for the van, but a few things matter:

  • Details of any power or water on site
  • The landowner’s or organiser’s permission for the van
  • Space for a queue away from paths

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise before you book.

What a fish and chip van costs

The price comes down to a few factors:

  • How long we serve
  • How many people are eating
  • Parking and the way in
  • Cod, haddock or both

The price depends on numbers, the menu and how long we serve, along with distance and access to the site. We quote for each booking individually.

Getting an accurate quote

We can quote more accurately with a few details. Here’s what to include:

  • Roughly how many people, including children
  • The date and time of the event
  • Access details such as gates and narrow lanes
  • Where the event is

A detailed enquiry gets a more accurate quote: where the van would park, how to get in, numbers and timings. Photos of the spot and the way in help. To send your details, send us your details through our quote form.

Should I sort the food myself?

Weighing up a takeaway order against booking a van? Think about numbers, timing and how hot you want the food. Ask us for a quote and compare.

Ordering in from a local chip shop is an option. Large orders are slow, and the food cools in the bags. A van solves that by cooking on site.

Organising for someone else?
