Planning an event in Binsted?

What a fish and chip van costs

The price comes down to a few factors:

  • The date and time of year
  • The minimum booking
  • How long we serve
  • Parking and the way in

Many fish and chip vans set a minimum, because the van, fuel and travel cost the same for a small group. Ask us what applies to your event.

What we need to know

You don’t need everything decided to ask for a quote, but it helps to know:

  • Allergies and diets you know about
  • Your date and serving time
  • Roughly how many people, including children
  • The spot you have in mind for the van

Every quote is worked out for your event. Give us your date first, and we will confirm whether we’re available that day.

How our fish and chip van hire works in Binsted

The queue at the hatch is part of the fun. People chat, the smell drifts across, and the food arrives hot. We are often asked to cater village fêtes and school fairs and weddings, especially the evening, with cod and chips, curry sauce and haddock and chips.

Somewhere like Binsted, a yard or firm field often works. Gates, verges and soft ground are worth mentioning when you enquire. We plan the timings around your day, whether that is a first dance, a lunch break or a service time.

Food your guests will love

Sausage and chips

Sausage and chips is the go-to for anyone who is not a fish fan.

Mushy peas

Mushy peas are made from dried marrowfat peas, soaked and cooked until soft. They’re the classic side with fish and chips.

Planning the van’s spot

No two venues are the same, so we will ask about yours before we confirm. In general, we need:

  • Space for people to queue at the hatch
  • Lighting nearby for evening events
  • Somewhere close to where people will eat

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise before you book.

Can’t we just order from the chip shop?

Deep-frying for lots of people at home is risky: hot oil and a busy party are a bad combination. A van is designed for exactly this.

Ordering in from a local chip shop is an option. The problem is timing: big orders take a long time, and the food is cooling while it travels. A van solves that by cooking on site.

Occasions we serve in Binsted

Hot food on a cold or wet day is hard to beat, and the van keeps frying whatever the weather.

Big or small, the van works the same way. Typical bookings include:

  • Festive get-togethers
  • Fêtes, fairs and school events
  • Wakes and celebrations of life
  • Visits to care homes and day centres

School fairs and fundraisers, for a school such as Binsted Church of England Primary School, can book the van as a food stall.

Choosing a fish and chip van

Your questions about a fish and chip van in Binsted

Is Binsted close to London?

About 41 miles from central London.

Which station is closest to Binsted?

Bentley (Hampshire) station, about 1.5 miles north-east of the centre.

Do you come to Binsted?

Yes. We cover London and the South East, including Binsted and the rest of Hampshire. To check your date, use our quote form.

What can guests choose from?

Fish and chips, of course, with sausages and pies for anyone who does not want fish. Mushy peas, curry sauce and gravy go on the side.

What areas do you cover?

London and the South East: Kent, Surrey, Sussex, Hampshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and the Isle of Wight, including Binsted.

How quickly can you serve everyone?

It depends on numbers, the menu and how people arrive. Give us your numbers and service window, and we will plan service around it.

What if we only have street parking?

Only where it is legal to park, or with a council parking suspension or road closure. Check with your council first.

What if the weather’s bad?

We cook inside the van, so rain doesn’t stop us. Guests will appreciate cover near the hatch.

How it works

When we arrive, we position the van, set up the hatch and get the fryers up to temperature. Once we are hot, we cook to order, timed around your event. Around midsummer it stays light in Binsted until about 9:20pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:05pm, so summer evening events are normally served in daylight. In December it is dark by about 4:00pm, so winter events need lighting by the van.

  1. Send us your date, numbers and address.
  2. We check access for the van and quote.
  3. We arrive early to park and heat the fryers.
  4. Fish goes into the batter and straight into the fryer, to order.
  5. Service is straight from the hatch, then we pack up.

How to prepare

  • Give us your final numbers and allergies
  • Clear the route for the van
  • Get permission for the van from the venue

Why choose a fish and chip van in Binsted?

Plated meals need a kitchen and a bigger team. A van needs only a level spot and permission to park. Fish and chip van prices depend on the booking. A one-hour staff lunch is a different job from serving all afternoon at a fête. Your quote spells it all out.
