How our fish and chip van hire works in Cheapside

There’s no kitchen to hire and nothing to wash up. All it needs is a level spot it can reach, which most drives, car parks and yards can offer. Whether it’s care home visits and summer garden parties, we can cook curry sauce, haddock and chips and cod and chips and more.

In a small place like Cheapside, the van frequently parks on a farm track, a field or a drive. Country lanes and long drives are fine if we know about them, and firm ground matters more than anything. Your quote spells out what’s included: serving times, the menu and anything else agreed.

How we price a fish and chip van

Your quote will be clear. The main things that affect it are:

  • Travel, tolls and road charges
  • The menu and how many choices
  • Service time
  • Whether a minimum applies

Many fish and chip vans set a minimum, since getting the van there costs the same however many eat. We’ll tell you up front.

What to tell us

A few details help us give you an accurate quote. Here’s what to include:

  • A photo of the parking spot
  • Access details such as gates and narrow lanes
  • The date and time of the event
  • Allergies and diets you know about

Most quotes start with a few simple details: the date, where the van would park, roughly how many people and when you’d like to eat. To send them, send us your details through our quote form.

Why choose a fish and chip van in Cheapside?

For food that suits almost everyone, fish and chips from a van is hard to beat. There is no one-size-fits-all price for a fish and chip van. A short service and a long afternoon’s trading are very different bookings. We set everything out in your quote.

Working with your venue

For larger numbers, tell us how long you have for food, so we can plan service to match. Sending people up in groups helps.

Hosting at home? Send a picture of where the van would park, and we’ll tell you honestly whether it works.

How it works

On the day, we park up on the agreed spot, set up and heat the fryers. Once we’re hot, we cook to order, so we time it to your schedule. Around midsummer it stays light in Cheapside until about 9:25pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:05pm, so summer evening events are normally served in daylight. In December it’s dark by about 3:55pm, so winter events need lighting by the van.

  1. We start with a few details about your event.
  2. We check the date and where the van will park, then send a quote.
  3. We agree timings, access and the parking spot.
  4. We cook to order on the day for your guests.
  5. Everything goes out hot from the hatch, and we pack up afterwards.

Before we arrive

  • Clear the route for the van
  • Leave room in front of the hatch for a queue
  • Choose a level, firm spot for the van

Who books fish and chip van hire in Cheapside?

A van is food and an occasion in one. The hatch becomes a meeting point, and the food is hot and plentiful.

Almost any gathering works with a fish and chip van. In Cheapside, people book us for events such as:

  • Evening wedding food
  • Staff lunches and team days
  • Wakes and gatherings after a funeral
  • Care home visits

If you’re gathering after a service at a church like Church of St Michael and All Angels, a nearby hall car park or drive suits the van.

What to look for in a quote

  • VAT, if it applies
  • What the van needs: space, access, power
  • Travel, tolls and road charges
  • The minimum number of meals or minimum spend

Diets, allergies and planning

With a little notice, diets are easier to plan for. Our advice:

  • Send allergies to us in writing
  • Plan something for guests whose needs we cannot meet
  • Have bins and napkins near the hatch
  • Add an allergy question to your invitations

The oil needs time to come up to temperature, so we get there in good time. If timings shift, we adapt.

A chalkboard by the hatch with the menu keeps the queue moving.

Your questions about a fish and chip van in Cheapside

Can the van park in Silwood Park?

Only if the landowner, generally the council, allows it. Ask them first.

Is Cheapside close to London?

About 24 miles from central London, and we cover it as standard.

What’s on the menu?

Proper fish and chips, with sausages and pies for anyone who doesn’t want fish. Mushy peas, curry sauce and gravy go on the side.

Do we need to provide anything?

Somewhere suitable to park, with permission. Tell us whether there is power or water nearby and we will confirm the rest.

Can you go on a lawn or field?

That depends on the weather and the ground. Let us know what the ground is like, and we will advise.

How quickly can you serve everyone?

That depends on numbers, menu and timing. Give us your numbers and service window, and we will plan to keep the queue moving.

How much space do you need?

Not much: a drive, a car park, a yard or a firm lawn, with a clear way in. Send us a photo if you’re not sure.

Do you fry it on site?

It is. We cook inside the van, so food is cooked there and then, not cooked earlier and kept warm.

Cannot we just order from the chip shop?

If you do order from a chip shop, ring well ahead and collect as close to eating time as you can. For anything more than a handful of people, a van is normally the easier option.

Deep-frying for lots of people at home is risky: big pans of hot oil, children and garden parties don’t mix. Leave the frying to a van built for it.

  • Fried fresh to order in the van at your event
  • Cod, haddock and chips, sausages and pies
  • The van comes to you: homes, venues, workplaces and fields
  • Served at the time you choose, from the hatch
