Looking after everyone

Nearly every event has some special diets. To look after them:

  • Send allergies to us in writing
  • Collect allergies with your RSVPs
  • Have a back-up for anyone who cannot eat from the van
  • Fewer choices mean faster service

Once everyone is fed, we pack up, quietly and quickly.

Plan cover near the hatch if rain is possible.

Fish and chip van hire in Frimley Green, cooked to order

Fish and chip van hire means the chip shop comes to you. The van parks up, the fryers go on and everything is cooked to order, so nothing sits waiting in a tray. We are often asked to cater staff lunches and team days and weddings and evening receptions, with curry sauce, gravy and mushy peas.

Around Frimley Green, bookings are often at homes, local halls and clubs. If access is tight, we’ll plan around it. Everything is fried fresh at your event, not cooked earlier and kept warm, and served the moment it comes out of the fryer.

What a fish and chip van costs

Every booking is priced individually, based on a few main things:

  • Parking and the way in
  • The date and time of year
  • The number of meals
  • The menu and how many choices

Many fish and chip vans set a minimum, since getting the van there costs the same however many eat. Ask us what applies to your event.

What to tell us

To check availability and price, we need:

  • Any dietary needs and allergies
  • Anything awkward about the way in
  • A picture of the parking spot
  • The address or venue name

Not sure of numbers yet? No problem: tell us the basics about your event, and we will quote on that. To start, send us your details through our quote form.

How it works

We arrive in good time before you want to eat, set up and bring the oil up to temperature. Guests typically gather round the hatch as soon as we open. Light matters for evening service: in Frimley Green, sunset is around 8:55pm in late May and 9:20pm in late June, but by late December it’s dark by about 3:55pm, so winter bookings need lighting by the hatch.

  1. Start with three things: the date, the place and a rough headcount.
  2. Show us where the van would go, and we’ll confirm it works.
  3. Closer to the day, we confirm the arrival time and serving time.
  4. The van rolls up, the hatch opens and the fryers get going for your guests.
  5. Once the last portion is out, we pack up and go.

Before we arrive

  • Name one person we can call on the day
  • Check the way in for low branches, cables and narrow gates
  • Leave room in front of the hatch for a queue

Curry sauce

The chip shop’s own curry sauce is mild and a little sweet, great with chips and sausages.

Haddock and chips

Some people swear by haddock: a firmer flake and a sweeter taste. Tell us if you’d like to offer it.

Should I sort the food myself?

Deep-frying for lots of people at home is risky: big pans of hot oil, children and garden parties do not mix. Leave the frying to a van built for it.

If you do order from a chip shop, ring well ahead and collect as close to eating time as you can. For anything more than a handful of people, a van is normally the easier option.

Frimley Green questions

We’re gathering after a service at Church of St Andrew: can you come?

Yes, at a nearby hall, home or venue with somewhere for the van. Food is generally served at the reception venue rather than the church. Send us the address.

What’s the nearest station to Frimley Green?

Farnborough North station, about 0.5 miles west of the centre.

Do you fry it on site?

Yes. We fry to order in the van at your venue, and serve straight from the hatch.

Can the van park on the street?

That depends on local parking rules. A drive, car park or yard is typically easier; for the street, check the council’s rules.

How far ahead should we book?

As early as you can, especially for summer weekends and December. Even at short notice, it’s worth asking.

Do you do anything other than fish?

We serve sausages and pies as well as fish. Let us know about any other dietary needs and we will tell you what we can offer.

Can we choose cod or haddock?

Both are on our menu; tell us which you’d like for your event.

What if the weather’s bad?

Rain does not stop the fryers: the cooking is inside the van. Guests will appreciate cover near the hatch.

Working with your venue

If you’re booking for a business, tell us how you’d like to handle the booking and payment, and we will explain how it works. We are happy to liaise with facilities on parking and timings.

Planners and coordinators can contact us directly, and we will keep you updated on arrival and serving times.

Choosing a fish and chip van

A fish and chip van or other catering?

Cold buffets are easy but forgettable, and there is nothing warming on a chilly day. A chip van cooks to order and serves hot. A chip van often compares well with a plated meal, as there’s no kitchen to hire and nothing to wash up. We’ll send you a quote.
