Fresh fish and chips in Godshill

Fish and chip van hire for your event in Godshill

The menu is short and classic: fish and chips, sausages and pies, plus the sides everyone expects. A short menu keeps the food fresh and the queue moving. Whether it is garden get-togethers and evening wedding food, we will put together a menu of curry sauce, mushy peas and cod and chips and more.

In a small place like Godshill, the van often parks on a farm track, a field or a drive. Tell us about narrow lanes or long drives and we’ll plan for them, and firm ground matters more than anything. We bring the van and everything we need to cook, and we leave the pitch tidy when we go.

Haddock and chips

Some people swear by haddock: sweeter and a touch firmer than cod. Tell us if you’d like to offer it.

Sausage and chips

Sausage and chips is the go-to for anyone who isn’t a fish fan, especially with curry sauce.

What a fish and chip van costs

The price comes down to a few factors:

  • Numbers
  • How far we travel
  • The day of the week
  • How long we serve

The cost per head usually falls as numbers rise, because the van, travel and set-up cost much the same either way. Tell us your numbers for an accurate price.

Getting an accurate quote

Here’s what makes a quick, accurate quote possible:

  • The spot you have in mind for the van
  • A picture of where the van would go
  • Your date and serving time
  • Any dietary needs and allergies

A fish and chip van in Godshill: local details

Godshill is in Hampshire. Bookings in Godshill come in all shapes and sizes, but the plan is always the same: somewhere to park, a time to serve and fresh frying. We serve 683 places across Hampshire, from the larger towns to small villages. We serve events right across the region, from Godshill to Southampton (about 16 miles away).

If you are gathering after a service at a church like St Giles, a nearby hall car park or drive suits the van. If you’re organising a summer fair for a school like The Burgate School and Sixth Form, a chip van is a crowd-pleaser. The New Forest National Park is within about 8 miles of Godshill. Ask your venue about vehicle access.

We cover events in every part of SP6 and the streets around it. Local streets include Purlieu Lane, Southampton Road and Roger Penny Way; an event on any of them works well with a drive or nearby car park. Takeaway run or book a van?

Not sure whether to order in or book a van? Think about numbers, timing and how hot you want the food. Ask us for a quote and compare.

A DIY buffet works for small groups. For larger numbers, or when you want hot food, a van takes the pressure off, and you get to enjoy the day.

Godshill questions

Can the van go to venues in the New Forest National Park?

Yes. Some venues there have rules about vehicles and ground, so check with yours. We’ll work to whatever the site needs.

Is Godshill too small for a chip van?

No, we come to small places too. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

What about guests who do not eat fish?

There is: sausage and chips or pie and chips. Tell us roughly how many to expect.

Which areas do you serve?

We take the van across London and the South East, including Hampshire. See all areas.

Do you need power or water?

Tell us what’s available at the site in your enquiry, and we’ll confirm what we need.

How does fish and chip van hire work?

The van parks at your venue, we fry fresh and serve from the hatch.

Can you cater for allergies?

Yes, we can tell you which allergens are in each item. Fish and gluten are the main ones in battered fish. Send us any allergies in writing.

What can guests choose from?

The classics: cod, haddock, chips, sausages and pies, plus mushy peas, curry sauce and gravy. See the menu.

A fish and chip van or other catering?

A big takeaway order arrives late and lukewarm. The van cooks right there, so the batter is still crisp. Compared with a sit-down meal, a fish and chip van is frequently good value, as there is no kitchen to hire and nothing to wash up. Ask us for a quote.

Why book with us

Before you choose a spot

A fish and chip van is a vehicle, so the spot matters, so a few things need checking. Here’s what we look for:

  • Room in front of the hatch for a queue
  • Confirmation that the van can park there
  • Access wide and high enough for the van

If you’re unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we will say what we think.

The process

We get there well before service, park the van and get the fryers going. Guests normally gather round the hatch as soon as we open. Around midsummer it stays light in Godshill until about 9:25pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:10pm, so summer evening events are generally served in daylight. In December it is dark by about 4:05pm, so winter events need lighting by the van.

  1. First, you send us your date, address, numbers and serving time.
  2. You get a check on the date and the spot, and a quote.
  3. On the day we arrive in good time, park up and heat the fryers.
  4. We cook to order and serve hot at the time you chose.
  5. We pack up afterwards and leave the spot as we found it.

Preparing for the day

  • Arrange somewhere dry for the queue
  • Let us know the serving time
  • Make sure the van can get in

How to get a price

We only need a few details to quote: the date, where the van would park, roughly how many people and when you’d like to eat. You can use our quote form.

Planning help

Allergies and dietary needs

Dietary needs are easiest to plan with some notice. Our advice:

  • Send allergies to us in writing
  • Give us separate numbers for children
  • Ask about allergies on your invitation or sign-up form
  • Flag any coeliac guests, not just gluten-free preferences

It helps to have bins and napkins by the van.

A gazebo by the van keeps the queue dry.

  • Fried fresh to order in the van at your event
  • Cod, haddock and chips, sausages and pies
  • The van comes to you: homes, venues, workplaces and fields
  • Served at the time you choose, from the hatch
