Fish and chip van hire in New Marston

What comes out of the fryer

Haddock and chips

Haddock is a little sweeter than cod, with a finer, firmer flake. It’s the traditional favourite in Scotland and much of the north.

Sausage and chips

For anyone who doesn’t fancy fish, there is sausage and chips, and it is a favourite with children.

Fish and chip van hire for your event in New Marston

Few meals are as universally loved as fish and chips. It is why a chip van suits so many occasions. Popular choices include sausage and chips, pie and chips and cod and chips, and we are often booked for community events and fairs and staff lunches and team days.

There may be a hall or club near New Marston if the drive is small; any can work for the van, with the owner’s agreement. The menu is short on purpose: fewer choices means fresher food and shorter queues.

What the van needs

The right spot keeps everyone safe and the service smooth. We look for:

  • Space for people to queue at the hatch
  • Lighting nearby for evening events
  • Confirmation that the van can park there

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise before you book.

Step by step

We don’t cook ahead. Each portion is battered and fried as it is ordered, so it is as fresh as from any chip shop. Around midsummer it stays light in New Marston until about 9:25pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:10pm, so summer evening service is normally in daylight. In December it is dark by about 3:55pm, so winter events need lighting by the van.

  1. Get in touch with the basics: when, where and roughly how many.
  2. A picture of the parking spot helps us check the van will fit.
  3. Closer to the day, we confirm the arrival time and serving time.
  4. The van rolls up, the hatch opens and the fryers get going for your guests.
  5. Last portion served, we tidy up and head off.

Before we arrive

  • Keep space clear for guests at the hatch
  • Send us final numbers and any allergies in good time
  • Clear the route for the van

Can’t we just order from the chip shop?

Ordering in from a local chip shop is an option. The problem is timing: big orders take a long time, and the food is cooling while it travels. A van cooks in front of your guests instead.

Frying for a crowd at home isn’t a good idea: big pans of hot oil, children and garden parties do not mix. Leave the frying to a van built for it.

A fish and chip van or other catering?

A plated meal needs a kitchen, more staff and generally costs more per head. A fish and chip van needs a level spot and permission to park. Cost depends on numbers, menu and service time, plus travel and access. Every booking gets its own quote.

Why New Marston hosts choose us

  • No kitchen, no crockery, no washing up
  • Served hot, straight from the hatch
  • Something for guests to gather round
  • Classic food your guests already know

Read our prices page and what a fish and chip van costs.

How we price a fish and chip van

Here’s what makes the biggest difference to the price:

  • How long we serve
  • How far we travel
  • The minimum booking
  • Parking and the way in

Many fish and chip vans set a minimum, because the van, fuel and travel cost the same for a small group. Ask us what applies to your event.

What we need to know

You do not need every detail fixed to get a quote, but it helps to know:

  • The spot you have in mind for the van
  • A photo of the parking spot
  • Where the event is
  • Roughly how many people, including children

We only need a few details to quote: date, address, numbers and serving time. You can send us your details through our quote form.

New Marston questions

Could you trade in Headington Hill Park?

Only with permission from the park’s owner, normally the council. Check with them first.

How far is New Marston from London?

Roughly 52 miles from the centre of London, and we cover it as standard.

Do you clear up afterwards?

We take the van and everything with it, and leave the spot tidy. Bins for guests are worth planning.

Is a chip van good for a large crowd?

Frequently, yes. Tell us your numbers and how long you have for food, and we will plan it with you.

What happens if it rains?

The weather doesn’t stop the van, because the fryers are inside. Soft ground after heavy rain is the bigger issue, so have a hard-surface spot in mind.

Do you do anything other than fish?

Sausage and chips and pie and chips are on the menu. Tell us about other diets and we will be honest about what’s possible.

Do you have a kids’ option?

Yes, children are easy to cater for. Let us know numbers, and we’ll plan for them.

Is grass a problem?

Often, if the ground is firm and dry. Soft, wet ground can trap any vehicle, so plan a back-up spot.
