About our fish and chip van hire in Old Windsor

A fish and chip van works almost anywhere the van can park: a drive, a car park, a yard, a showground or a firm lawn. For community events and fairs and visits to care homes and day centres, we can cook mushy peas, sausage and chips and curry sauce for your guests.

Around Old Windsor, bookings are often at homes, local halls and clubs. If access is tight, we’ll plan around it. Every portion is cooked to order on the day, never cooked in advance and left in a hot cabinet, and handed over as soon as it’s ready.

What a fish and chip van costs

The same numbers can mean different prices, because of:

  • How many people are eating
  • Service time
  • Travel, tolls and road charges
  • Parking and the way in

Cost depends on numbers, menu and service time, plus travel and access. Every booking gets its own quote.

Details that help

The more we know about your event, the better we can plan. Try to include:

  • The spot you have in mind for the van
  • A picture of where the van would go
  • Dietary needs, with numbers
  • The date and when you’d like to eat

Each quote is put together for your event. Start with your date, and we’ll check availability right away.

Mushy peas

Mushy peas are made from dried marrowfat peas, soaked and cooked until soft. They’re the side most people expect.

Pie and chips

A pie and chips is proper comfort food, and it’s a favourite in colder months.

The process

Service is quick: food goes from the fryer to the hatch. Afterwards we pack up. Evening events need a little planning for light: around Old Windsor, it stays light until about 9:25pm at midsummer, while in December the light goes at about 3:55pm, so winter bookings need lighting by the hatch.

  1. First, tell us about your event.
  2. We check the date and where the van will park, then send a quote.
  3. We agree timings, access and the parking spot.
  4. On the day, we park up and fry fresh for your guests.
  5. We serve from the hatch, then leave the pitch tidy.

Getting ready for the day

  • Send us final numbers and any allergies in good time
  • Check the way in for low branches, cables and narrow gates
  • Check the venue or landowner is happy for the van to park

Occasions we serve in Old Windsor

It suits relaxed, sociable events, where people can wander up when they’re ready.

Whatever the occasion in Old Windsor, fish and chips from the hatch goes down well. We regularly serve:

  • Birthday celebrations
  • Christmas parties
  • Fish and chip days at care homes
  • Village fêtes and school fairs

For a fundraiser at a school like King's Court First School, the van can trade from a pitch agreed with the school.

  • How long service runs, and what happens if you overrun
  • The van’s size and access needs
  • Whether there’s a minimum

Our booking checklist

A chip van compared with other options

Plated meals need a kitchen and a bigger team. A fish and chip van needs a level spot and permission to park. Many fish and chip vans set a minimum, since getting the van there costs the same however many eat. Ask us what applies to your event.

Why Old Windsor hosts choose us

  • No surprises in your quote
  • Classic food your guests already know
  • Something for guests to gather round
  • All the chip-shop extras

For event organisers in Old Windsor

If you are booking for a business, tell us how you’d like to handle the booking and payment, and we will talk you through the process. We’re happy to liaise with facilities on parking and timings.

If you’re planning an event on someone’s behalf, such as a wedding planner, an office manager or a fête committee, we’ll work directly with you and the venue. It keeps things simple.

Looking after everyone

A little planning makes sure everyone is looked after. Try these:

  • Flag any coeliac guests, not just gluten-free preferences
  • Tell us about vegetarian and vegan guests early
  • Put allergy details in writing
  • Put bins and napkins by the van

Once everyone is fed, we pack up.

A gazebo by the van keeps the queue dry.

What the van needs

Most drives, car parks, yards and firm lawns can take the van, but there are a few things to check:

  • Confirmation that the van can park there
  • A clear way in, with no low branches, cables or narrow gates
  • A short walk from the party

Not sure about the spot? Send us a photo and we will tell you honestly before you book.

Do we need to provide equipment?

Everything is cooked in the van. Tell us about power, water and bins at the site.
