Planning the van’s spot

A fish and chip van is a vehicle, so the spot matters, so a few things need checking. Here’s what we look for:

  • Room in front of the hatch for a queue
  • A level, firm spot the van can drive onto
  • Lighting nearby for evening events

If you are unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we will say what we think before booking.

Fish and chip van hire for your event in Sholden

Few meals are as universally loved as fish and chips. That’s why a van works for so many kinds of event. For milestone birthday parties and Fêtes, fairs and school events, we can cook curry sauce, mushy peas and sausage and chips for your guests.

In a hamlet or village like Sholden, a farmyard or a neighbour’s field can make a good pitch. Mention gates and soft ground when you get in touch. Food is served straight from the hatch, so it is hot and generous, and the queue keeps moving.

A fish and chip van or other catering?

If you want something everyone will enjoy, a fish and chip van is a safe and popular choice. The cost per head usually falls as numbers rise, because the van, travel and set-up cost much the same either way. Give us your numbers and we will quote.

Why book with us

  • A menu almost everyone likes
  • Hot food handed straight over
  • No kitchen, no crockery, no washing up
  • The queue at the hatch gets people talking

Take a look at how we price or the cost guide.

How the day works

The smell of the fryers does the inviting. Fish goes into the batter and straight into the fryer, and chips are fried in batches through service. Evenings in Sholden stay light until about 9:15pm in June, but by late September sunset is around 7:00pm; once it is dark, we need light by the hatch and the queue.

  1. You tell us the date, the address, rough numbers and when you’d like to eat.
  2. We check availability and access and send a clear quote.
  3. On the day, we park on the agreed spot and set up.
  4. We cook to order and serve hot at the time you chose.
  5. When service is finished, we pack up and leave the pitch tidy.

How to prepare

  • Let us know the serving time
  • Give us a contact for the day
  • Check the way in for low branches, cables and narrow gates

Questions from Sholden

What about events near the coast?

Yes, of course. Wind doesn’t affect the fryers, but plan a sheltered spot for the queue.

What’s the nearest station to Sholden?

Deal station, about 1.1 miles east of the centre.

What’s on the menu?

Fish and chips, of course, plus sausage or pie and chips. The sides are mushy peas, curry sauce and gravy.

Does a chip van work for big events?

It can be. Tell us your numbers and how long you have for food, and we’ll plan it with you.

Can fish and chips be the only food?

It is a full meal on its own. You can add your own desserts if you like.

Is the food cooked at the event?

Yes, always. We fry to order in the van at your venue, then handed over hot from the hatch.

Do you cover Sholden?

Yes. We cover London and the South East, including Sholden. For a quote, fill in our quote form.

Can you serve children?

Of course. Sausage and chips is a favourite with children. Include children in your numbers.

Should I sort the food myself?

You could do a chip-shop run for everyone yourself, but it rarely works for a crowd. Long waits and a drive home mean food arrives lukewarm and soggy. A van fries it right there, so it’s crisp.

DIY food keeps costs down, but the host spends the event serving. With a fish and chip van, you get hot food without the work.

Occasions we serve in Sholden

Hot food on a cold or wet day is hard to beat, and the van keeps frying whatever the weather.

Planning for dietary needs

We need to know about dietary needs and allergies in advance, and we’ll be straight with you about what’s possible. To get it right:

  • Let us know numbers for vegetarians and vegans
  • Count children separately
  • Have bins and napkins near the hatch
  • Flag any coeliac guests, not just gluten-free preferences

The fryers take a little while to heat, so we get there in good time. If plans change, tell us and we will adjust.

A string of bunting by the van makes a lovely photo.
