Party fish and chip van in Old Tree

Party fish and chip van in Old Tree, fried fresh

There’s no need for a venue: a chip van on the drive turns your home into the venue. Popular choices include cod and chips, haddock and chips and curry sauce, and we’re frequently booked for kids’ birthday parties and anniversaries and engagement parties.

A country party near Old Tree is perfect for fish and chips: cooked to order and eaten on the lawn. Plan a firm spot in case it rains. We serve from the hatch, so it is hot and generous, and service is quick once we’re up and running.

Plenty of places work for the van, but there are a few things to check:

  • Confirmation that the van can park there
  • A level, firm spot the van can drive onto
  • A short walk from the party

Not sure about the spot? Send us a picture and we will tell you honestly.

How it works

The smell of the fryers does the inviting. Each piece of fish is battered and fried to order, and chips are fried in batches through service. A summer party in Old Tree stays light until about 9:15pm at midsummer, so a garden party can run well into the evening. In late September it’s dark by about 7:00pm; add lights for the evening.

  1. First, the plan: what, where and what time.
  2. We come back with availability and a clear price.
  3. The van’s spot is fixed in advance, and how it gets in.
  4. Batter, fish and chips all go into the fryer as people come up.
  5. The pitch is left tidy when we go.

About the food

Haddock and chips

Haddock has a slightly sweeter flavour and a firmer flake. It’s the traditional favourite in Scotland and much of the north.

Curry sauce

Chip-shop curry sauce is a mild, slightly sweet British classic, great with chips and sausages.

How we price a fish and chip van for your party

The same numbers can mean different prices, because of:

  • Whether a minimum applies
  • Cod, haddock or both
  • The length of service
  • Parking and the way in

Cost depends on numbers, menu and service time, plus travel and access. We quote for each booking individually.

Getting an accurate quote

The more we know about your party, the better we can plan. Please include:

  • Allergies and diets you know about
  • The date and time of the event
  • How to get in: gates, lanes and ground
  • A picture of where the van would go

We quote for each event separately, based on your numbers, timings and travel. To ask for one, fill in our quote form.

Allergies and dietary needs

A little planning helps everyone eat safely. A few tips:

  • Mention the van to neighbours
  • Collect allergies with your RSVPs
  • Count children separately
  • Confirm allergies by email

Keep the queue away from the road.

Seats or a few tables help people eat comfortably.

Cannot we just order from the chip shop?

Collecting fish and chips for a crowd yourself is possible, but it’s hard work. Long waits and a drive home mean food arrives lukewarm and soggy. A van fries it right there, so it’s crisp.

For a small group, making your own food can work. For larger numbers, or when you want hot food, a van takes the pressure off, and you get to enjoy the day.

Why choose a fish and chip van in Old Tree?

Ordering in for a crowd means long waits. A van fries on the spot. Compared with a sit-down meal, a fish and chip van is often good value, because it needs no kitchen and no crockery hire. Ask us for a quote.

Parties in Old Tree: homes, halls and local tips

Old Tree is about 3 miles south-east of Herne Bay, in Kent. For parties in Old Tree, we plan around your venue and timings: a quote, a parking spot and fresh frying on the day. We cover all 922 towns and villages in Kent, from the larger towns to small villages. Our bookings stretch from Old Tree to Canterbury (about 6 miles away).

A green space like Curtis Wood is tempting, but a catering van there needs the landowner’s say-so, usually the council’s. After a christening at a church like Church of the Holy Cross, a chip van at home is an easy way to feed family and friends. Near the coast, within about 3 miles, a fish and chip van feels like a trip to the seaside, and we always plan for wind.

Wherever your party is in CT3, we can fry fresh for your guests. Nearby, we also serve parties in Maypole (1 mile west), Hoath (1 mile south-west), Millbank (1 mile north-west), Knave's Ash (1 mile south-west) and Hollow Street (1 mile south-east). Within a short drive, we also cover Canterbury (6 miles south-west), Margate (10 miles east), Dover (15 miles south), Ramsgate (10 miles east), Broadstairs (11 miles east) and Whitstable (6 miles west).

Nearby you will also find St Martins Hospital (5.1 miles south-west). Green spaces nearby include West Blean and Thornden Woods.

  • Nearby schools include Spires Academy (2.1 miles south-west)

15 questions to ask before booking

Questions from Old Tree

Could you trade in Curtis Wood?

Only with permission from the park’s owner, normally the council. Ask them first.

We’re gathering after a service at Church of the Holy Cross: can you come?

Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby where the van can park. Churches rarely have space for a catering van, so the food is typically elsewhere. Tell us where you will gather.

Is everything cooked fresh?

Yes. The fryers are in the van, so food is cooked there and then, not cooked earlier and kept warm.

Do we need to provide anything?

Let us know about power and water at the site in your enquiry, and we will confirm what we need.

How soon do we need to book?

The sooner the better. Popular dates book up first, so it pays to ask early.

Where do you take the van?

We take the van across London and the South East, including Kent. See all areas.

Do you take everything away?

We pack up and leave the pitch tidy when service is finished. Tell us where bins can go for people’s paper and trays.

What’s on the menu?

Proper fish and chips, with sausages and pies for anyone who does not want fish. The sides are mushy peas, curry sauce and gravy.

  • Fried fresh to order in the van at your event
  • Cod, haddock and chips, sausages and pies
  • The van comes to you: homes, venues, workplaces and fields
  • Served at the time you choose, from the hatch
