Fresh fish and chips in Canada
Wedding fish and chip van in Canada, fried fresh
We park close to the reception, and guests drift out to queue and chat. It turns evening food into part of the celebration. We serve curry sauce, sausage and chips and mushy peas, and we’re regularly asked to cater relaxed, informal receptions and garden and marquee receptions.
There is something special about a country wedding near Canada, and fish and chips at dusk adds to it. Plan a firm back-up spot if the field is wet. We keep the menu short: fewer choices means fresher food and shorter queues.
Can’t we just order from the chip shop?
Not sure whether to order in or book a van? Consider your numbers and how fresh you want it. We’re happy to send a quote so you can compare.
A DIY buffet works for small groups. For larger numbers, or when you want hot food, a van takes the pressure off, and nobody has to miss the wedding.
What the van needs
A good parking spot makes the whole thing easier. We look for:
- Somewhere close to where people will eat
- Access wide and high enough for the van
- Space for people to queue at the hatch
Not sure about the spot? Send us a photo and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.

FAQs for Canada
What’s the nearest station to Canada?
The closest is Romsey station, roughly 4.6 miles away.
Do you come out to small places like Canada?
Not at all. We serve villages and hamlets as well as towns. Let us know about access and parking.
Can the van park on grass?
It depends on the ground. Let us know what the ground is like, and we will advise.
Can the van be part of the photos?
Lots of couples ask for a photo at the van. If you’d rather not, we will park out of shot where possible.
Is the food cooked at the event?
Yes. We fry to order in the van at your venue, and serve straight from the hatch.
What do you bring?
All the cooking happens in the van. Let us know what’s available at the site.
Where will the van go at our venue?
That’s up to your venue, but close to the party is best. Send us a photo of the spot.
How long will the queue be?
That depends on numbers, menu and timing. Give us your numbers and service window, and we will plan to keep the queue moving.
The process
Because we cook inside the van, rain doesn’t stop us. It is worth thinking about cover for the queue, though. In Canada, evening wedding food often coincides with dusk: sunset is around 8:55pm in late May, 9:25pm at midsummer and 7:10pm in late September. A few lights by the hatch help guests and photos alike.
- You share your date, numbers and address.
- We check the route in and send a price.
- We arrive in good time to set up.
- Everything is fried to order as the queue moves.
- Service is straight from the hatch, then we pack up.
Preparing for the day
- Plan a bit of cover near the hatch if rain is likely
- Pick a flat, firm place for the van to park
- Clear the route for the van

What a fish and chip van costs
Each booking is quoted on its own, based on a few main things:
- Any minimum charge
- Access and parking
- The day of the week
- The number of meals
Fish and chip van prices depend on the booking. A one-hour staff lunch is a different job from serving all afternoon at a fête. Your quote spells it all out.

Planning for dietary needs
We take allergies seriously. Help us by following these steps:
- Ask your venue about catering vans first
- Ask about dietary needs on the invitation
- Not every evening guest eats: ask us how many to plan for
- Have bins ready for paper and trays
Most couples serve evening food between about 8pm and 9:30pm, after the first dance.
