The smell of fish and chips drifting across the reception does the inviting. The queue becomes a place to catch up. On the menu are mushy peas, sausage and chips and curry sauce, and we’re regularly asked to cater pre-wedding get-togethers and weddings in a marquee or garden.

There’s something special about a country wedding near Cheeseman's Green, and fish and chips at dusk adds to it. Plan a firm back-up spot if the field is wet. The fryers are in the van, so the cooking happens right there at your wedding, so the batter is still crisp when it’s handed over.

The menu, dish by dish

Mushy peas

Proper mushy peas start with dried marrowfat peas. They’re the side most people expect.

Curry sauce

Chip-shop curry sauce is a mild, slightly sweet British classic, great with chips and sausages.

Should I sort the food myself?

Deep-frying for lots of people at home is risky: hot oil and a busy party are a bad combination. Leave the frying to a van built for it.

Doing the food yourself saves money, but the host ends up running around. With a fish and chip van, you get hot food without the work.

Your questions about a fish and chip van for your wedding in Cheeseman's Green

Is Cheeseman's Green close to London?

About 51 miles from central London.

Can the van go to venues in the Kent Downs National Landscape?

Yes. Some venues there have rules about vehicles and ground, so check with yours. We will follow the site rules.

How much space do you need?

Level, firm ground the van can reach, close to where people will eat, with room for a queue at the hatch. Tell us about gates, lanes and soft ground.

Does every evening guest need to eat?

That depends on your day. Many couples cater for most of the evening list, not all.

What time will you serve?

At the time you choose. After the first dance is the most popular time.

Is there something for children?

Yes, children are easy to cater for. Let us know numbers, and we’ll include them in the plan.

What can guests choose from?

Fish and chips, of course, with sausages and pies for anyone who doesn’t want fish. The sides are mushy peas, curry sauce and gravy.

Do you take everything away?

We take the van and everything with it, and leave the spot tidy. It helps to have bins near the hatch.

How we price a fish and chip van for your wedding

The price comes down to a few factors:

  • The minimum booking
  • Service time
  • Distance and any road charges
  • Cod, haddock or both

Cost depends on numbers, menu and service time, along with distance and access to the site. Every booking gets its own quote.

What to tell us

Good planning starts with a few facts. Try to include:

  • Where you’d like the van to go
  • The date and when you’d like to eat
  • How to get in: gates, lanes and ground
  • Rough numbers for adults and children

Not sure of numbers yet? No problem: give us a rough idea and the date, and we will firm it up nearer the time. To start, fill in our quote form.

Is a fish and chip van right for your wedding?

Hog roasts are a wedding favourite, but it is pork only. A chip van offers fish, sausages and pies. Many fish and chip vans set a minimum, because the van, fuel and travel cost the same for a small group. We will tell you up front.

Why book with us

  • Everything cooked to order at your event
  • Cod, haddock, sausages and pies
  • No kitchen, no crockery, no washing up
  • A quote that spells everything out

The process

We need a level, firm place to park the van, near your guests, which we agree with you beforehand. In Cheeseman's Green, midsummer sunset is about 9:15pm, and by late September it is nearer 7:00pm, so evening food at about 8:30pm is in daylight in high summer. Later in the year, plan lighting: in December it’s dark by about 3:50pm.

  1. You share your date, numbers and address.
  2. We check the route in and send a price.
  3. We arrive in good time to set up.
  4. Fish goes into the batter and straight into the fryer, to order.
  5. We serve hot from the hatch and pack up when we are done.

Preparing for the day

  • Have a level parking spot ready
  • Check the way in for low branches, cables and narrow gates
  • Get permission for the van from the venue
