A chip van compared with other options

A second sit-down meal in the evening is expensive and formal. Fish and chips from the hatch keeps it informal. Compared with a sit-down meal, a fish and chip van is frequently good value, because it needs no kitchen and no crockery hire. Ask us for a quote.

About our wedding fish and chip van in Erith

Some couples book the van for the wedding breakfast at a relaxed, informal wedding. Most use it for evening food, when it is most welcome. Whether it’s food after the first dance and relaxed, informal receptions, we can cook cod and chips, sausage and chips and haddock and chips.

For a wedding in Erith, think about where a catering van can stop. Ask your venue about a loading bay or yard, which suits a chip van well. The fryers are in the van, so the cooking happens right there at your wedding, so the batter is still crisp when it is handed over.

How it works

When we arrive, we park up on the agreed spot, set up and heat the fryers. Then everything is fried to order, timed around your wedding. At midsummer, sunset in Erith is about 9:20pm, so the van can serve before or after your sunset photos. In late May, sunset is about 8:50pm, and in late September about 7:05pm.

  1. You tell us your date, venue, rough numbers and when you’d like the food.
  2. We check access at the venue and send a price.
  3. We agree arrival and serving times with you and your venue.
  4. On the day we set up in good time and fry fresh at the agreed time.
  5. We pack up quietly once everyone has eaten.

How to prepare

Erith questions

Can you serve after a service at Christ Church?

Yes, at a nearby hall, home or venue with somewhere for the van. Food is generally served at the reception venue rather than the church. Tell us where you’ll gather.

Could you trade in Wildspace Conservation Park?

Only with permission from the park’s owner, usually the council. Ask them first.

Do you do evening food for weddings?

Of course. It is our most popular wedding booking. Tell us your date and venue.

How long does set-up take?

We get there in good time to set up. We will agree arrival and serving times with you.

How many portions do we need?

That depends on your day. Most couples plan for most of their evening guests.

Can the van come to Erith?

Yes, we do. Erith is one of the places we cover. Tell us your date and we’ll check availability.

What food do you serve?

Chip-shop favourites: cod or haddock and chips, sausages and pies, plus mushy peas, curry sauce and gravy. Our menu has the details.

What areas do you cover?

We take the van across London and the South East, including Greater London. Find your area.

Food your guests will love

Pie and chips

Pie and chips is hearty and filling, and it is a favourite in colder months.

Mushy peas

Mushy peas are a must for plenty of fish and chip fans, and they’re on the menu.

What the van needs

A fish and chip van is a vehicle, so the spot matters, so a few things need checking. Here’s what we look for:

  • Somewhere close to where people will eat
  • Confirmation that the van can park there
  • Light near the van and the queue for evening service

Erith is in London, within the Ultra Low Emission Zone, and parking can be tight: tell us about driveways, yards, car parks or a council parking suspension.

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise before you book.

How we price a fish and chip van for your wedding

Your quote will be clear. The main things that affect it are:

  • Peak dates such as summer Saturdays
  • Access and parking
  • How many people are eating
  • Distance and any road charges

When you compare quotes, check what each one includes: service time, menu, travel, any minimum and VAT. Our quotes spell it all out.

Details that help

The more we know about your wedding, the better we can plan. Try to include:

  • Where you’d like the van to go
  • Allergies and diets you know about
  • Where the event is
  • A photo of the space and the way in

It is easy to get a price: share your date, address, rough numbers and when you’d like to eat. We will send a clear quote that says what’s included.

Allergies and dietary needs

A little planning makes sure everyone is looked after. Try these:

  • Count suppliers working late
  • Check your venue’s rules on outside caterers early
  • Arrange an alternative for anyone who cannot eat from the van
  • Add an allergy question to your RSVP card

Most couples serve evening food between about 8pm and 9:30pm, after the first dance and before the party really gets going.

Napkins or wet wipes by the van are a kindness to anyone in their wedding best.

Occasions we serve in Erith

The van keeps cooking in any weather, which takes one worry off the list.

Big or small, the van works the same way. Typical bookings include:

  • Informal weddings
  • Engagement celebrations
  • Vow renewal parties
  • Food after the first dance

Planning photos in Wildspace Conservation Park? It is worth checking the park’s rules first.

What to look for in a quote

  • Whether travel is included
  • Any minimum charge
  • How much space the van takes up
  • If the price includes VAT
