Fresh fish and chips in Greatness
About our wedding fish and chip van in Greatness
Barn, marquee and garden weddings suit a chip van perfectly, because there’s typically somewhere firm for the van to park nearby. Typical bookings include seaside-themed weddings and weddings in a marquee or garden, serving curry sauce, cod and chips and mushy peas.
In Greatness, a local ceremony and a marquee reception is a lovely, personal choice. The van parks on a firm spot nearby for the evening. Let us know about access for the van. You will know what’s included before booking: serving times, the menu and anything else agreed, with no surprises on the day.
Prices and what affects them
We will give you a clear quote. The main things that affect it are:
- How long we serve
- The minimum booking
- The date and time of year
- How far we travel
Larger groups generally cost less per head, because the van, travel and set-up cost much the same either way. Tell us your numbers for an accurate price.
Getting an accurate quote
To speed things up, tell us:
- The date and when you’d like to eat
- Where you’d like the van to go
- The venue or postcode
- Dietary needs, with numbers
Getting a quote is simple: share your date, address, rough numbers and when you’d like to eat. We will send a clear quote that says what’s included.
A chip van compared with other options
Next to a cold buffet, a chip van serves hot food fresh from the fryer, and nothing sits out drying up. The date matters too: summer Saturdays and December Fridays are the busiest days of the year. It’s worth asking early.
Why Greatness hosts choose us

- Confirmation that the van can park there
- A lit spot if service runs after dark
- A level hardstanding, drive or firm lawn
Not sure about the spot? Send us a picture and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.

Greatness questions
What’s the nearest station to Greatness?
Greatness has its own station: Bat & Ball station.
We are gathering after a service at St John the Baptist: can you come?
Yes, at a nearby hall, home or venue with somewhere for the van. Churches rarely have space for a catering van, so the food is normally elsewhere. Send us the address.
Do you do anything other than fish?
We serve sausages and pies as well as fish. Let us know about any other dietary needs and we’ll be honest about what’s possible.
Who clears up?
We take the van and everything with it, and leave the spot tidy. Bins for guests are worth planning.
When do you arrive?
It depends on numbers and the service time. We agree arrival, serving and finishing times with you before the day.
What happens if it rains?
Rain does not stop the fryers: the cooking is inside the van. Guests will appreciate cover near the hatch.
How much space do you need?
A level, firm spot it can drive onto, near your guests, with room for a queue at the hatch. Tell us about gates, lanes and soft ground.
Can you go on a lawn or field?
It depends on the ground. Let us know what the ground is like, and send a photo if you can.
How the day works
Changes on the day are fine: we can start a little later or slow the pace. For a summer wedding in Greatness, the sun sets at about 9:20pm in late June and about 7:05pm in late September, so evening food at about 8:30pm is in daylight in high summer. Later in the year, plan lighting: in December it is dark by about 3:55pm.
- You share your date, numbers and address.
- We check access for the van and quote.
- We arrive early to park and heat the fryers.
- Fish goes into the batter and straight into the fryer, to order.
- Service is straight from the hatch, then we pack up.
Before we arrive
- Give us your final numbers and allergies
- Pick a flat, firm place for the van to park
- Plan where the queue will stand

Allergies and dietary needs
With a little notice, diets are easier to plan for. Our advice:
- Have a back-up for guests with special diets
- Include the band, photographer and venue staff
- Check your venue’s rules on outside caterers early
- Flag coeliac guests early
We arrive and set up without getting in the way, so the fryers are hot when you’re ready.
Festoon lights by the van look lovely in the evening photos.
