Can’t we just order from the chip shop?

A DIY buffet works for small groups. For larger numbers, or when you want hot food, a van takes the pressure off, and you get to enjoy the day.

Ordering in from a local chip shop is an option. Large orders are slow, and the food cools in the bags. A van solves that by cooking on site.

Wedding fish and chip van in Lingfield Common, cooked to order

Timings are planned with you and the venue, so service fits around the first dance, the cake and the band. For evening wedding food and laid-back receptions, we can cook curry sauce, mushy peas and haddock and chips for your guests.

Near Lingfield Common, weddings are frequently in fields, barns or gardens. That’s where a chip van shines: no kitchen needed, just a firm spot near the party. Tell us about lanes, gates and ground conditions. Every portion is cooked to order on the day, never cooked in advance and left in a hot cabinet.

A fish and chip van or other catering?

Formal evening food costs more and slows the party down. A van keeps it relaxed, and guests eat where they like. The price depends on numbers, the menu and how long we serve, along with distance and access to the site. Every booking gets its own quote.

What you get with us

  • Served hot, straight from the hatch
  • Fish and chips fried fresh on site
  • Works on wet days as well as sunny ones
  • Events in Lingfield Common and across Surrey

How it works

We don’t cook ahead. Each portion is battered and fried as it’s ordered, so it is as fresh as from any chip shop. At midsummer, sunset in Lingfield Common is about 9:20pm, so the van can serve before or after your sunset photos. In late May, sunset is about 8:50pm, and in late September about 7:05pm.

  1. Get in touch with the basics: when, where and roughly how many.
  2. Show us where the van would go, and we’ll confirm it works.
  3. Closer to the day, we confirm the arrival time and serving time.
  4. The van rolls up, the hatch opens and the fryers get going for your guests.
  5. Once the last portion is out, we pack up and go.

How to prepare

  • Give us your final numbers and allergies
  • Leave room in front of the hatch for a queue
  • Name one person we can call on the day

Planning for dietary needs

Dietary needs are easiest to plan with some notice. We suggest:

  • Flag coeliac guests early
  • Cater for most, not all, of the evening guest list
  • Ask about dietary needs on the invitation
  • Plan bins by the hatch

Once everyone has eaten, we pack up and let the dancing carry on.

Napkins or wet wipes by the van are a kindness to anyone in their wedding best.

Planning the van’s spot

The van has to be able to get in and park safely, so a few things need checking. Here’s what we look for:

  • Somewhere close to where people will eat
  • A lit spot if service runs after dark
  • Room in front of the hatch for a queue

Not sure about the spot? Send us a photo and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

Popular choices

Working with your venue

For big groups, the service window matters, so we can plan service to match. Staggering groups helps a lot.
