Wedding fish and chip van for New Zealand events

Wedding fish and chip van in New Zealand, fried fresh

We agree timings with you and your venue, so service fits around the first dance, the cake and the band. Popular choices include curry sauce, haddock and chips and sausage and chips, and we are often booked for coastal-themed receptions and day-after gatherings.

A wedding in a small place like New Zealand frequently means a field, a barn or a family garden. That is where a chip van shines: no kitchen, just firm ground nearby. Tell us about lanes, gates and ground conditions. We plan the timings around your day, whether that is a first dance, a lunch break or a service time.

Questions from New Zealand

Can the van go to venues in the Chilterns National Landscape?

Yes, though some venues in protected landscapes have extra rules for vehicles; ask your venue. We’ll work to whatever the site needs.

Do you come out to small places like New Zealand?

No, we come to small places too. Let us know about access and parking.

Can the van park on the street?

It depends on the road. A drive, car park or yard is generally easier; for the street, check the council’s rules.

How many portions do we need?

Generally most, not all. Tell us your numbers and timings, and we’ll advise.

How soon do we need to book?

As soon as you have a date. Peak dates go quickly, so get in touch early.

What do you bring?

Everything is cooked in the van. Let us know what’s available at the site.

Can you serve children?

Of course. Sausage and chips is a favourite with children. Include children in your numbers.

Do you do evening food for weddings?

Yes. It’s our most popular wedding booking. Tell us your date and venue.

The process

We get there well before service, set up and bring the oil up to temperature. Your guests can wander over to the hatch once service starts. Golden-hour photos in New Zealand at midsummer come around 9:25pm, which helps us time evening food around your photos. In late May, sunset is about 8:55pm, and in late September about 7:05pm.

  1. Send us your date, numbers and address.
  2. We check the route in and send a price.
  3. We arrive in good time to set up.
  4. Fish goes into the batter and straight into the fryer, to order.
  5. Service is straight from the hatch, then we pack up.

How to prepare

  • Check the venue or landowner is happy for the van to park
  • Pick a flat, firm place for the van to park
  • Clear the route for the van

What comes out of the fryer

Gravy

Gravy brings a bit of warmth to the meal.

Curry sauce

Chip-shop curry sauce is a mild, slightly sweet British classic, perfect with chips or a sausage.

Takeaway run or book a van?

Ordering from a local shop? Call ahead and collect at the last minute. For a crowd, a van is usually simpler.

Collecting fish and chips for a crowd yourself is possible, but it’s hard work. By the time you’ve queued, paid and driven back, the batter has gone soft. With a van, it’s fried on the spot.

Space, access and the venue

Plenty of places work for the van, but there are a few things to check:

  • A short walk from the party
  • A route in without tight gates or low branches
  • A clear area by the serving hatch

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise.

What we serve

  • Sausage and chips
  • Cod and chips
  • Evening fish and chips
  • Mushy peas
  • Curry sauce
  • Haddock and chips

What affects the price in New Zealand

There is nothing hidden: the price is based on:

  • Whether a minimum applies
  • The length of service
  • Your choice of menu
  • Access and parking

Fish and chip van prices depend on the booking. A one-hour staff lunch is a different job from serving all afternoon at a fête. Your quote spells it all out.

What to tell us

These details help us quote quickly:

  • Expected numbers
  • A photo of the space and the way in
  • Any dietary needs and allergies
  • Where the event is

A detailed enquiry gets a more accurate quote: where the van would park, how to get in, numbers and timings. Photos of the spot and the way in help. When you’re ready, use our quote form.

Planning for dietary needs

Nearly every event has some special diets. To look after them:

  • Let us know if anyone has coeliac disease
  • Have bins ready for paper and trays
  • Add an allergy question to your RSVP card
  • Plan something for guests we cannot cater for

Your venue coordinator or a nominated friend can let us know if things run late, so the food is still fresh.

A string of lights by the hatch makes a great photo.
