About the food

Haddock and chips

Some people swear by haddock: a firmer flake and a sweeter taste. Ask us about offering haddock alongside or instead of cod.

Curry sauce

Curry sauce divides opinion, so we bring it along.

About our wedding fish and chip van in Piddington

A fish and chip van is one of the most popular choices for evening wedding food. Hours after the wedding breakfast, guests are ready to eat again, and fish and chips from the hatch is exactly what they want. On the menu are sausage and chips, curry sauce and cod and chips, and we are regularly asked to cater garden and marquee receptions and laid-back receptions.

A wedding in a small place like Piddington often means a field, a barn or a family garden. A chip van is made for that: no kitchen needed, just a firm spot near the party. Let us know about access and ground. You’ll know what’s included before you book: serving times, the menu and anything else agreed.

If you are booking for a business, tell us how you’d like to handle the booking and payment, and we will explain how it works. We’re happy to liaise with facilities on parking and timings.

Hosting at home? Send a photo of where the van would park, and we will tell you honestly whether it works.

Is a fish and chip van right for your wedding?

Late-night snacks from the venue can be small. A chip van makes sure nobody goes home hungry. When you compare quotes, check what each one includes: service time, menu, travel, any minimum and VAT. We set ours out clearly.

15 questions to ask before you book

DIY versus a fish and chip van

For a small group, making your own food can work. For bigger numbers, a van makes life easier, and you get to enjoy the day.

Doing the food yourself saves money, but the host ends up running around. With a fish and chip van, you get hot food without the work.

Before you choose a spot

If a spot is not suitable, we’ll tell you, and suggest an alternative. What matters most:

  • Light near the van and the queue for evening service
  • The site’s agreement to a catering van
  • A spot near your guests

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise.

How the day works

We do not cook ahead. Each portion is battered and fried as it is ordered, which is why it tastes like it does at the seaside. In Piddington, midsummer sunset is about 9:25pm, and by late September it is nearer 7:05pm, so evening food at about 8:30pm is in daylight in high summer. For autumn and winter weddings, when it’s dark by about 3:55pm in December, plan lighting by the van.

  1. Send us your date, numbers and address.
  2. We check access for the van and quote.
  3. We arrive early to park and heat the fryers.
  4. Everything is fried to order as the queue moves.
  5. We serve hot from the hatch and pack up when we’re done.

How to prepare

  • Check the venue or landowner is happy for the van to park
  • Keep space clear for guests at the hatch
  • Think about a gazebo by the van in case of rain
