How our wedding fish and chip van works in Shide

The smell of fish and chips drifting across the reception does the inviting. People chat in the queue and come back with full hands. For pre-wedding get-togethers and weddings in a marquee or garden, we’ll put together a menu of sausage and chips, curry sauce and mushy peas.

Weddings in a place like Shide often feel personal: a local church, then a marquee in a garden or field. The van parks on a firm spot nearby for the evening. Tell us about access to the field or garden. We plan the timings around your day, so the food is ready when you want to eat.

Diets, allergies and planning

Nearly every event has some special diets. To look after them:

  • Put bins near the van
  • Tell us about coeliac guests specifically
  • Make sure we have someone to call on the day
  • Arrange an alternative for anyone who can’t eat from the van

Your venue coordinator or a nominated friend can let us know if things run late.

Festoon lights by the van look lovely in the evening photos.

Planners, venues and businesses

Planners and coordinators can contact us directly, and we’ll keep everyone informed on the day.

If your event is in a public place, such as a park or a street, check what permission you need first. The council or landowner will tell you what they need.

Takeaway run or book a van?

Doing the food yourself saves money, but the host ends up running around. Booking the van means hot food and no stress.

Not sure whether to order in or book a van? Consider your numbers and how fresh you want it. Ask us for a quote and compare.

A chip van compared with other options

Late-night snacks from the venue can be small. Fish and chips fills people up. Most vans have a minimum charge, since getting the van there costs the same however many eat. Ask us what applies to your wedding.

Shide questions

Could you trade in Seaclose Park?

Only if the landowner, usually the council, allows it. Check with them first.

Can you serve after a service at Church of St. John the Baptist?

Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby where the van can park. Churches rarely have space for a catering van, so the food is normally elsewhere. Tell us where you will gather.

How much space do you need?

A level, firm spot it can drive onto, close to where people will eat, and space for a queue. Mention any narrow gates or soft ground.

Do you need power or water?

Somewhere suitable to park, with permission. Tell us whether there is power or water nearby and we’ll take it from there.

What does it cost to hire the van?

It depends on numbers, the menu, how long we serve and travel. Tell us about your wedding and we will send a quote.

How long are you on site?

That depends on your numbers and timings. We confirm all the timings beforehand.

Is there a non-fish option?

Yes: sausage and chips or pie and chips. Give us a rough idea of numbers.

What’s on the menu?

The classics: cod, haddock, chips, sausages and pies, with mushy peas, curry sauce and gravy. See the menu.

What happens on the day

From set-up to the last portion, we look after the food, so you can get on with your wedding. Golden-hour photos in Shide at midsummer come around 9:20pm, which helps us time evening food around your photos. Sunset is around 8:55pm in late May and 7:10pm in late September.

  1. You tell us your date, venue, rough numbers and when you’d like the food.
  2. You get a check on the date and venue, and a quote.
  3. We agree arrival and serving times with you and your venue.
  4. On the day we set up in good time and fry fresh at the agreed time.
  5. Afterwards we clear our spot and leave you to the party.

How to prepare
