Wedding fish and chip van in South Bersted, cooked to order

Some couples book the van for the wedding breakfast at a relaxed, informal wedding. Most book it for the evening, when it’s most welcome. Whether it is weddings in a marquee or garden and pre-wedding get-togethers, we can cook mushy peas, curry sauce and sausage and chips for your guests.

Weddings in a place like South Bersted frequently feel personal: a local church, then a marquee in a garden or field. The van parks on a firm spot nearby for the evening. Let us know about access for the van. Every portion is cooked to order on the day, never cooked in advance and left in a hot cabinet.

How it works

On the day, we position the van, set up the hatch and get the fryers up to temperature. Once we are hot, we cook to order, so we time it to your schedule. At midsummer, sunset in South Bersted is about 9:20pm, so the van can serve before or after your sunset photos. Sunset is around 8:50pm in late May and 7:05pm in late September.

  1. Send us your date, numbers and address.
  2. We check the route in and send a price.
  3. We arrive early to park and heat the fryers.
  4. Everything is fried to order as the queue moves.
  5. Service is straight from the hatch, then we pack up.

A fish and chip van or other catering?

Late-night snacks from the venue can be small. Fish and chips fills people up. Comparing vans? Look at what each quote includes: service time, menu, travel, any minimum and VAT. Our quotes spell it all out.

Why book our van in South Bersted

  • The queue at the hatch gets people talking
  • Mushy peas, curry sauce and gravy on the side

Takeaway run or book a van?

DIY food keeps costs down, but the host spends the event serving. With a fish and chip van, you get hot food without the work.

Deep-frying for lots of people at home is risky: hot oil and a busy party are a bad combination. Leave the frying to a van built for it.

FAQs for South Bersted

Can you serve near the sea around South Bersted?

Yes, of course. Wind does not affect the fryers, but plan a sheltered spot for the queue.

Can the van park in The Brooks Local Nature Reserve?

Only if the landowner, typically the council, allows it. Check with them first, and tell us what they say.

Do you do anything other than fish?

Yes: sausages and pies, with chips. Tell us roughly how many to expect.

What do you bring?

We bring the van and everything we need to cook. You provide a suitable spot and permission to park.

Is grass a problem?

Generally, if it is firm and dry. Soft, wet ground can trap any vehicle, so have a hard-surface back-up.

Does the batter contain gluten?

No, not as standard: the batter contains wheat. Tell us about any coeliac guests and we will explain the options before booking.

What time will you serve?

Most couples choose between 8pm and 9:30pm, once the first dance is done. We will fit your running order.

What can guests choose from?

Proper fish and chips, with sausages and pies for anyone who does not want fish. The sides are mushy peas, curry sauce and gravy.

The menu, dish by dish

Mushy peas

Proper mushy peas start with dried marrowfat peas. They’re the side most people expect.

Curry sauce

Chip-shop curry sauce is a mild, slightly sweet British classic, perfect with chips or a sausage.

Looking after everyone

We need to know about dietary needs and allergies in advance, and we’ll tell you honestly what we can offer. To make it work smoothly:

  • Not every evening guest eats: ask us how many to plan for
  • Arrange an alternative for anyone who cannot eat from the van
  • Don’t forget your suppliers
  • Ask about dietary needs on the invitation

Your venue coordinator or a nominated friend can let us know if things run late, so the food is still fresh.

Let the DJ or band announce when the food is ready.
