Sausage and chips

Sausage and chips is the go-to for anyone who isn’t a fish fan, especially with curry sauce.

Wedding fish and chip van in St Leonards, cooked to order

Evening wedding food from a fish and chip van is a favourite. By nine o’clock, guests are hungry again, and fish and chips from the hatch is exactly what they want. Typical bookings include barn weddings and wedding after-parties, serving mushy peas, cod and chips and curry sauce.

Couples in St Leonards frequently keep it personal, with a marquee or a local hall. Evening fish and chips suits that kind of day. Everything we need comes with the van, and we pack up and leave the spot as we found it.

Allergies and dietary needs

Allergies are taken seriously. Help us by following these steps:

  • Include the band, photographer and venue staff
  • Plan something for guests we can’t cater for
  • Have bins ready for paper and trays
  • Collect allergies with your RSVPs

After service, we pack up quietly and let the dancing carry on.

A string of lights by the hatch makes a great photo.

What a fish and chip van costs

The price comes down to a few factors:

  • Access and parking
  • Distance and any road charges
  • Your choice of menu
  • The day of the week

The price depends on numbers, the menu and how long we serve, plus travel and access. We quote for each booking individually.

Details that help

The more we know about your wedding, the better we can plan. Try to include:

  • A picture of the space and the way in
  • Where the van would park
  • Anything awkward about the way in
  • The venue or postcode

Still finalising the details? That is fine: tell us the basics about your wedding, and we’ll firm it up nearer the time. Start when you are ready: fill in our quote form.

Cannot we just order from the chip shop?

A DIY buffet works for small groups. For larger numbers, or when you want hot food, a van takes the pressure off, and you get to enjoy the day.

You could do a chip-shop run for everyone yourself, but it rarely works for a crowd. By the time you’ve queued, paid and driven back, the batter has gone soft. A van fries it right there, so it is crisp.

Planners, venues and businesses

If your event is in a public place, such as a park or a street, check what permission you need first. The council or landowner will tell you what they need.

For larger numbers, tell us how long you have for food, so we can plan how to keep the queue short. Staggering groups helps a lot.

A chip van compared with other options

Some venue evening menus are light. Fish and chips fills people up. If you have a budget in mind, tell us, and we will suggest a menu and timing to match. Keeping the menu short is generally the best value.

Why book with us

  • All the chip-shop extras
  • Fish and chips fried fresh on site

How it works

We arrive in good time before you want to eat, set up and bring the oil up to temperature. Guests normally gather round the hatch as soon as we open. At midsummer, sunset in St Leonards is about 9:15pm, so the van can serve before or after your sunset photos. In late May, sunset is about 8:45pm, and in late September about 7:00pm.

  1. Get in touch with the basics: when, where and roughly how many.
  2. Show us where the van would go, and we’ll confirm it works.
  3. A week or so before, we confirm timings and numbers.
  4. The van rolls up, the hatch opens and the fryers get going for your guests.
  5. Once the last portion is out, we pack up and go.

Getting ready for the day

  • Let us know the serving time
  • Think about a gazebo by the van in case of rain
  • Pick a flat, firm place for the van to park

Questions from St Leonards

What’s the nearest station to St Leonards?

St Leonards Warrior Square station, in St Leonards itself.

Can you serve after a service at St John the Evangelist's Church?

Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby where the van can park. Food is normally served at the reception venue rather than the church. Send us the address.

Do you take everything away?

The pitch is left as we found it. It helps to have bins near the hatch.

Can you park on the road outside?

That depends on local parking rules. Off-road parking is normally simpler; if it has to be the street, check with the council.

Do we need to provide anything?

A suitable spot for the van and permission to park there. Mention any power or water available and we will take it from there.

How do you handle allergies?

Let us know about allergies in advance, and we will give you the allergen information and what we can offer.

When do you arrive?

That depends on your numbers and timings. We confirm all the timings beforehand.

What food do you serve?

The classics: cod or haddock and chips, sausages and pies, plus mushy peas, curry sauce and gravy. Our menu has the details.

  • Fried fresh to order in the van at your event
  • Cod, haddock and chips, sausages and pies
  • The van comes to you: homes, venues, workplaces and fields
  • Served at the time you choose, from the hatch
