Wedding fish and chip van for Standlake events

Questions from Standlake

Is Standlake too small for a chip van?

Not at all. We serve villages and hamlets as well as towns. Let us know about access and parking.

We are gathering after a service at St Giles' Church: can you come?

Yes, at a nearby hall, home or venue with somewhere for the van. Churches rarely have space for a catering van, so the food is generally elsewhere. Send us the address.

What’s on the menu?

The classics: cod, haddock, chips, sausages and pies, with mushy peas, curry sauce and gravy. See the menu.

Is there something for children?

Children are very welcome. Let us know numbers, and we will include them in the plan.

What if the weather’s bad?

The weather doesn’t stop the van, because the fryers are inside. Very soft ground can be a problem, so plan a back-up spot on a hard surface.

Will the van be in our photos?

Often, yes, and it makes a fun photo. Bunting or lights make it even better.

Can the van come for the evening?

Evening food is exactly what we do. We’ll fit around your first dance and band.

Can you park near the barn?

Your venue decides, but close to the party is best. A picture of the area helps.

Once the fryers are on, guests find the van on their own. The queue becomes a place to catch up. On the menu are curry sauce, haddock and chips and sausage and chips, and typical bookings are for weddings with a seaside feel and barn weddings.

Near Standlake, weddings are often in fields, barns or gardens. That is where a chip van shines: no kitchen, just firm ground nearby. Tell us about lanes, gates and ground conditions. Allergies and dietary needs

Nearly every event has some special diets. To look after them:

  • Check your venue’s rules on outside caterers early
  • Name a friend or coordinator as our contact
  • Plan something for guests we can’t cater for
  • Don’t forget your suppliers

Most couples serve evening food between about 8pm and 9:30pm, once the first dance is done and before the party really gets going.

A covered route from the marquee to the van helps if it rains.

What a fish and chip van costs

These are the factors that matter most:

  • How far we travel
  • Cod, haddock or both
  • The date and time of year
  • Parking and the way in

Cost depends on numbers, menu and service time, plus travel and access. We quote for each booking individually.

What to tell us

These details help us quote quickly:

  • A picture of where the van would go
  • Anything awkward about the way in
  • Where the event is
  • The date and when you’d like to eat

Every booking is quoted individually, so the price fits what you actually need. For a quote, use our quote form.

Food your guests will love

Pie and chips

Pie and chips is hearty and filling, and it’s a favourite in colder months.

Gravy

Gravy brings a bit of warmth to the meal, especially in winter.

Should I sort the food myself?

Collecting fish and chips for a crowd yourself is possible, but it is hard work. Long waits and a drive home mean food arrives lukewarm and soggy. A van fries it right there, so it is crisp.

Doing the food yourself saves money, but the host ends up running around. With a fish and chip van, you get hot food without the work.

A fish and chip van or other catering?

Bacon rolls and pizza are popular evening choices too. A chip van gives a more filling, proper meal that guests remember. When you compare quotes, check what each one includes: hours, menu, travel, minimum charge and VAT. We set ours out clearly.

Working with your venue

Hosting at home? Send us a picture of the drive or the spot and the way in, and we will let you know if the van will fit.

For big groups, the service window matters, so we can plan service to match. Staggering groups helps a lot.

Space, access and the venue

Plenty of places work for the van, but there are a few things to check:

  • A lit spot if service runs after dark
  • A clear way in, with no low branches, cables or narrow gates
  • Room in front of the hatch for a queue

If you are unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we will say what we think before booking.

How the day works

Service is quick: food goes from the fryer to the hatch. Afterwards we pack up. At a December wedding in Standlake, it’s dark by about 3:55pm, so the route from the reception to the van needs lighting, while a June wedding has light until about 9:30pm.

  1. Send us your date, numbers and address.
  2. We check access for the van and quote.
  3. We arrive early to park and heat the fryers.
  4. Everything is fried to order as the queue moves.
  5. We serve hot from the hatch and pack up when we’re done.

How to prepare

  • Name one person we can call on the day
  • Pick a flat, firm place for the van to park
  • Let us know the serving time
