Book the van in The Pound

Step by step

There’s very little for you to do on the day: point us to the spot and get on with your wedding. We handle the cooking and serving. For a summer wedding in The Pound, the sun sets at about 9:15pm in late June and about 7:00pm in late September, so evening food at about 8:30pm is in daylight in high summer. Later in the year, plan lighting: in December it’s dark by about 3:55pm.

  1. Get in touch with the basics: when, where and roughly how many.
  2. Show us where the van would go, and we’ll confirm it works.
  3. A week or so before, we confirm timings and numbers.
  4. We park, open the hatch and start frying for your guests.
  5. Last portion served, we tidy up and head off.

Preparing for the day

  • Name one person we can call on the day
  • Leave room in front of the hatch for a queue
  • Get permission for the van from the venue

Wedding fish and chip van for your wedding in The Pound

Good evening food keeps people on the dance floor, and few things are as welcome as hot fish and chips after a long day. We serve curry sauce, cod and chips and mushy peas, and we’re frequently booked for barn weddings and vow renewal parties.

Rural weddings around The Pound have a magic of their own, and evening fish and chips adds to it. Plan a firm back-up spot if the field is wet. Every portion is cooked to order on the day, not cooked earlier and kept warm, and served the moment it comes out of the fryer.

Working with your venue

If you are organising for someone else, such as a wedding planner, an office manager or a fête committee, we’re happy to deal with you and the venue directly. It saves passing messages back and forth.

Parks, greens and streets usually need permission for a catering van. Ask the council or landowner early.

Perfect for your wedding in The Pound

Rain does not stop the fryers, which takes one worry off the list.

Almost any gathering works with a fish and chip van. In The Pound, people book us for occasions like:

  • Evening wedding food
  • Weddings with a seaside feel
  • Second-day and after-party food
  • Engagement parties

After a ceremony at a church like Parish Church of St Peter, many couples move to a marquee or hall nearby, which is where the van comes in.

Looking after everyone

A little planning makes sure everyone is looked after. Here’s how:

  • Not every evening guest eats: ask us how many to plan for
  • Plan something for guests we can’t cater for
  • Include the band, photographer and venue staff
  • Collect allergies with your RSVPs

Most couples serve evening food between about 8pm and 9:30pm, once the first dance is done and before the party really gets going.

A string of lights by the hatch makes a great photo.

FAQs for The Pound

Which station is closest to The Pound?

The closest is Battle station, roughly 4.5 miles away.

Do you come out to small places like The Pound?

No, we come to small places too. Let us know about access and parking.

Will the van be in our photos?

Lots of couples ask for a picture at the van. If not, ask your venue to park it out of the main photo spots.

Is the fish gluten-free?

No, not as standard: the batter contains wheat. Tell us about any coeliac guests and we will explain the options.

Can you cater for allergies?

Tell us about allergies when you book, and we will give you the allergen information and what we can offer.

Can you serve children?

Children are very welcome. Let us know numbers, and we’ll include them in the plan.

Where do you take the van?

London and the South East: Kent, Surrey, East and West Sussex, Hampshire, Berkshire, Bucks, Oxfordshire and the Isle of Wight, including The Pound.

What does the van need?

Not much: a hard surface or firm, dry grass, with a clear way in. If in doubt, send a photo.

What comes out of the fryer

Gravy

A pot of gravy turns chips into comfort food, especially in winter.

Pie and chips

For a heartier option, there is pie and chips.

Why fried-to-order beats a buffet

Bacon rolls and pizza are popular evening choices too. A chip van gives a more filling, proper meal. Many fish and chip vans set a minimum, because the van, fuel and travel cost the same for a small group. We’ll tell you up front.

What you get with us

  • The queue at the hatch gets people talking
  • Quick service from the hatch

What affects the price in The Pound

Two events with the same numbers can cost different amounts, because of:

  • The menu and how many choices
  • The length of service
  • The day of the week
  • Numbers

Dates make a difference: summer Saturdays and December Fridays are the busiest days of the year. It is worth asking early.
