Wedding fish and chip van in Thorpe Green, cooked to order

Once the fryers are on, guests find the van on their own. The queue becomes a place to catch up. On the menu are haddock and chips, mushy peas and curry sauce, and we’re regularly asked to cater vow renewals and anniversaries and seaside-themed weddings.

Near Thorpe Green, weddings are often in fields, barns or gardens. A chip van is made for that: no kitchen, just firm ground nearby. Let us know about access and ground. The fryers are in the van, so the cooking happens right there at your wedding, and the food reaches them hot and crisp.

A fish and chip van or other catering?

Next to a cold buffet, a chip van serves hot food fresh from the fryer, and nothing has been out for hours. The date matters too: peak summer weekends and Christmas party Fridays book up first. It is worth asking early.

What you get with us

  • All the chip-shop extras
  • Works on wet days as well as sunny ones
  • The queue at the hatch gets people talking
  • No kitchen, no crockery, no washing up

How the day works

It is a relaxed, well-organised set-up. We agree arrival and serving times in advance, park on the agreed spot, and get on with frying and serving. In Thorpe Green, midsummer sunset is about 9:20pm, and by late September it is nearer 7:05pm, so evening food at about 8:30pm is in daylight in high summer. For autumn and winter weddings, when it’s dark by about 3:55pm in December, plan lighting by the van.

  1. Get in touch with the basics: when, where and roughly how many.
  2. A picture of the parking spot helps us check the van will fit.
  3. A week or so before, we confirm timings and numbers.
  4. We park, open the hatch and start frying for your guests.
  5. Last portion served, we tidy up and head off.

Getting ready for the day

Before the day, we will agree where the van parks. A good spot ticks these boxes:

  • A clear way in, with no low branches, cables or narrow gates
  • A short walk from the party
  • Room in front of the hatch for a queue

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise.

Allergies and dietary needs

Good planning keeps every guest safe and happy. Here’s how:

  • Have bins ready for paper and trays
  • Arrange an alternative for anyone who can’t eat from the van
  • Count suppliers working late
  • Cater for most, not all, of the evening guest list

Once everyone has eaten, we pack up and let the dancing carry on.

A chalkboard sign with the menu by the van adds a nice touch.

Thorpe Green questions

How far is Thorpe Green from London?

About 20 miles from central London, and well within our area.

Could you trade in Riverside Walk?

Only with permission from the park’s owner, typically the council. Check with them first.

Does every evening guest need to eat?

Generally most, not all. Tell us your numbers and timings, and we’ll advise.

Can the van park on the street?

Only where it’s legal to park, or with a council parking suspension or road closure. Check with your council first.

What does it cost to hire the van?

Every booking is quoted individually, so the price fits what you need. Tell us your date and rough numbers for a clear quote.

Will guests take photos at the van?

It usually ends up in a few photos. Bunting or lights make it even better.

Can the van come to Thorpe Green?

Yes, we do. We serve events in Thorpe Green and across Surrey. Send us your date to check availability.

Does the batter contain gluten?

Our battered fish contains gluten, because standard batter uses wheat flour. Let us know about coeliac guests in advance, and we’ll be straight with you about what’s possible.

Food your guests will love

Pie and chips

For a heartier option, there is pie and chips.

  • Fried fresh to order in the van at your event
  • Cod, haddock and chips, sausages and pies
  • The van comes to you: homes, venues, workplaces and fields
