Care home fish and chips in Jordans, fried fresh

Staff get a break from the usual routine. For day centre treats and retirement housing and sheltered schemes, we will put together a menu of cod and chips, gravy and pie and chips for your guests.

Rural care homes near Jordans can feel a long way from the seaside, so a van visit is a big occasion. We cook inside the van, right where your residents are, and the food reaches them hot and crisp.

A fish and chip van or other catering?

Your kitchen could cook it, but a van turns it into an occasion. Comparing vans? Look at what each quote includes: service time, menu, travel, any minimum and VAT. We set ours out clearly.

Why Jordans hosts choose us

  • Events in Jordans and across Buckinghamshire
  • The classic sides: peas, curry sauce and gravy
  • Fried fresh, not kept warm
  • No kitchen needed

DIY versus a fish and chip van

Weighing up a takeaway order against booking a van? Consider your numbers and how fresh you want it. We are happy to send a quote so you can compare.

Some hosts try a takeaway order. Large orders are slow, and the food cools in the bags. A van solves that by cooking on site.

A closer look at the menu

Curry sauce

Some people won’t eat chips without curry sauce, so we bring it along.

Gravy

Chips and gravy is a favourite in the north and the Midlands, and it is lovely with a pie.

Planners, venues and businesses

Many venues set rules for catering vans: where a van can park, access times and the paperwork they want. Send us your venue’s requirements and we will confirm what we can provide.

If you are booking for a business, tell us how you’d like to handle the booking and payment, and we’ll explain how it works. We can work with your facilities team on access and timings.

Diets, allergies and planning

With a little notice, diets are easier to plan for. Our advice:

  • Include staff and visitors in your numbers
  • List residents’ diets, allergies and portion needs
  • Keep the van clear of emergency access
  • Ask about smaller portions

We arrive in good time to park and heat the fryers, quietly.

Inviting families makes it even more special.

What the van needs

Before the day, we will agree where the van parks. A good spot ticks these boxes:

  • A lit spot for evening service
  • Clear of ambulance access and emergency routes
  • Access the van can manage

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise.

What we serve

  • Sausage and chips
  • Pie and chips
  • Gravy
  • Cod and chips
  • Mushy peas

How it works

We do not cook ahead. Fish is battered and fried when people come up to the hatch, which is why it tastes like it does at the seaside. In Jordans, the garden season runs from late May, with light until about 8:55pm, to late September, around 7:05pm.

  1. Contact us with the basics: when, where and roughly how many.
  2. Show us where the van would go, and we’ll confirm it works.
  3. A week or so before, we confirm timings and numbers.
  4. We park, open the hatch and start frying for residents.
  5. Last portion served, we tidy up and head off.

Before we arrive

  • Plan where the queue will stand
  • Confirm the van is allowed on site
  • Give us your final numbers and allergies

Questions from Jordans

How far is Jordans from London?

About 23 miles from central London, and well within our area.

Do you come out to small places like Jordans?

No, we come to small places too. Let us know about access and parking.

Do you fry it on site?

Yes, always. We fry to order in the van at your venue, and serve straight from the hatch.

Can residents with special diets join in?

Yes, with meals for texture-modified diets from the home’s own kitchen.

Do you cover Jordans?

Yes. We take the van across London and the South East, including Jordans and the rest of Buckinghamshire. To check your date, send us your details through our quote form.

Can you cook in the rain?

The weather doesn’t stop the van, because the fryers are inside. Very soft ground can be a problem, so plan a back-up spot on a hard surface.

Do you do residents’ portions?

Portion sizes are agreed in advance.

What food do you serve?

Fish and chips, of course, plus sausage or pie and chips. Mushy peas, curry sauce and gravy go on the side.

What a fish and chip van costs

Two events with the same numbers can cost different amounts, depending on:

  • The length of service
  • Parking and the way in
  • Whether a minimum applies
  • The day of the week

The price depends on numbers, the menu and how long we serve, plus travel and access. Every booking gets its own quote.

Details that help

A few details help us give you an accurate quote. Here’s what’s useful:

  • A picture of where the van would go
  • The spot you have in mind for the van
  • The date and time of the event
  • Anything awkward about the way in

Still finalising the details? No problem: tell us the basics about your care home visit, and we’ll firm it up nearer the time. Start when you are ready: use our quote form.
