Step by step

On the day, we position the van, set up the hatch and get the fryers up to temperature. Then everything is fried to order, timed around your event. Summer fêtes in Jordans have long light evenings, with sunset about 9:25pm at midsummer, but by late September the light goes at about 7:05pm, so evening trading may need lights.

  1. Start with three things: the date, the place and a rough headcount.
  2. A picture of the parking spot helps us check the van will fit.
  3. A week or so before, we confirm timings and numbers.
  4. The van rolls up, the hatch opens and the fryers get going for your visitors.
  5. Last portion served, we tidy up and head off.

Getting ready for the day

  • Arrange somewhere dry for the queue
  • Leave room in front of the hatch for a queue
  • Check the way in for low branches, cables and narrow gates

How far is Jordans from London?

Roughly 23 miles from the centre of London.

Which areas do you serve?

London and the South East: Kent, Surrey, Sussex, Hampshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and the Isle of Wight, including Jordans.

Who clears up?

The pitch is left as we found it. It helps to have bins near the hatch.

How much is fish and chip van hire?

Every booking is quoted individually, so the price fits what you need. Give us your date, numbers and serving time and we will reply with a price.

Do you have a kids’ option?

Yes. Sausage and chips is a favourite with children. Include children in your numbers.

Can you come to a school event?

Yes, with the school’s permission for the van on site. Send us the date and the spot.

Where can the van park?

Less than you might think: a hard surface or firm, dry grass, that the van can reach easily. If in doubt, send a picture.

Food your guests will love

Haddock and chips

Haddock is a little sweeter than cod, with a finer, firmer flake. It is the traditional favourite in Scotland and much of the north.

Cod and chips

Cod and chips is the meal most people picture when they think of a chip shop. Cooked fresh at the hatch, it’s hot, crisp and generous.

For event organisers in Jordans

Planning an event for a club, school or charity in Jordans? Fish and chips is a reliable crowd-pleaser. Give us the details and we’ll suggest how it could work.

Hosting at home? Send a photo of where the van would park, and we will tell you honestly whether it works.

A fish and chip van or other catering?

At larger events, a van adds to the mix and spreads the queues. The date matters too: summer Saturdays and December Fridays are the busiest days of the year. It is worth asking early.

With a bit of planning, dietary needs are easier to handle. A few tips:

  • Tell us about the pitch
  • Plan something for visitors we cannot cater for
