Planners, venues and businesses

Many venues set rules for catering vans: parking spots, arrival times and documents. Tell us what your venue needs and we will work through them with you.

Parks, greens and streets normally need permission for a catering van. Ask the council or landowner early.

About our Christmas party fish and chips in Capel

Everything is fried inside the van, so rain and cold don’t stop us. We serve sausage and chips, pie and chips and curry sauce, and typical bookings are for christmas family parties and staff Christmas parties.

In winter near Capel, we need firm ground and light, as fields are frequently soft. Food is served straight from the hatch, so it is hot and generous, and service is quick once we’re up and running.

FAQs for Capel

Do you come to venues in the Surrey Hills National Landscape?

Yes. Some venues there have rules about vehicles and ground, so check with yours. We will follow the site rules.

How far is Capel from London?

Roughly 26 miles from the centre of London, and we cover it as standard.

Do you clear up afterwards?

We take the van and everything with it, and leave the spot tidy. Bins for guests are worth planning.

Can you cater for allergies?

We provide allergen information for everything we serve. Fish and gluten are the main ones in battered fish. Send us any allergies in writing.

Can coeliacs eat the battered fish?

Not as standard: batter is normally made with wheat flour. Tell us about any coeliac guests and we will explain the options.

Do you do anything other than fish?

Sausage and chips and pie and chips are on the menu. Let us know about any other dietary needs and we’ll be honest about what’s possible.

Can you come to our office Christmas party?

Yes. Send us your date and site details.

Do we need to provide anything?

Somewhere suitable to park, with permission. Mention any power or water available and we’ll confirm the rest.

Occasions we serve in Capel

By December, many people have had several Christmas dinners, so fish and chips is a welcome change.

Big or small, the van works the same way. Typical bookings include:

  • Lights switch-on events
  • Club and society Christmas socials
  • School and PTA Christmas fairs
  • Office Christmas parties

PTA Christmas fairs, for a school such as Scott Broadwood CofE Infant School, suit a chip van.

What your quote should include

  • The van’s size and access needs
  • VAT, if it applies
  • The minimum number of meals or minimum spend
  • What happens if the event is cancelled or moved

Prices and what affects them

Your quote will be clear. What affects it most:

  • How far we travel
  • How easy the site is to reach
  • Your choice of menu
  • How long we serve

Comparing vans? Look at what each quote includes: service time, menu, travel, any minimum and VAT. Our quotes spell it all out.

Details that help

A few details help us give you an accurate quote. Here’s what’s useful:

  • Expected numbers
  • Anything awkward about the way in
  • Where the van would park
  • Dietary needs, with numbers

Each quote is put together for your Christmas party. Give us your date first, and we will confirm whether we are available that day.

Why fried-to-order beats a buffet

A big takeaway order rarely arrives hot. The van fries on site. Distance and any road charges make a difference, so it helps to give us the postcode.

Why Capel hosts choose us

  • Quick service from the hatch
  • Fried fresh, not kept warm
  • A van that becomes part of the event
  • Cod, haddock, sausages and pies

Read our pricing and our guide to van hire costs.

Before you choose a spot

No two venues are the same, so we ask about the spot and the way in before we confirm. Generally, we look for:

  • The site’s agreement to a catering van
  • A clear area by the serving hatch
  • Flat, firm ground for the van

Not sure about the spot? Send us a picture and we will tell you honestly.

How it works

We arrive in good time before you want to eat, set up and bring the oil up to temperature. Your guests can wander over to the hatch once service starts. In December, it’s dark in Capel by about 3:55pm, so even a late-afternoon Christmas party needs lighting by the van and the queue. A lunchtime party is the only one served in good daylight.

  1. You tell us the date, the venue or site, rough numbers and when you’d like to eat.
  2. We check access and lighting at the spot and send a price.
  3. We plan a lit, sheltered spot for the van and queue.
  4. We cook to order and serve from the hatch on time.
  5. Afterwards, we pack up and leave you to the party.

How to prepare

  • Share the timings for the day
  • Arrange somewhere dry for the queue
  • Give us a contact for the day

How to get a price

Not sure of numbers yet? No problem: tell us the basics about your Christmas party, and we’ll quote on that. To start, send us your details through our quote form.

Planning for dietary needs

Most events have a few guests with dietary needs. To look after them:

  • Flag any coeliac guests
  • Plan an alternative for anyone we can’t cater for
  • Check the van can park on site
  • Ask about your date in the autumn, or earlier

Keep the walk from the door to the van short.

A charity collection for a local food bank is a nice touch.
