Staff lunches in Sheet: access and travel

Sheet is about 1 mile north-east of Petersfield, in Hampshire. We cover Sheet as standard, so your staff event just needs a date, a spot for the van and a serving time. Sheet is one of 683 towns and villages in Hampshire where we bring the van. We serve events right across the region, from Sheet to Guildford (22 miles away).

Teams travelling in by rail can use the station: Petersfield station, about 1.1 miles south-west, is the nearest station. Central London is about 49 miles from Sheet, well within our area. With the South Downs National Park within about 2 miles, rural team days are easy to arrange.

We take the van to staff events all over GU32 and GU31 and the streets around it. Streets in the area include Mill Lane, Village Street and Farnham Road, and the van can serve a staff event on any of them with a suitable parking spot. If your venue is just outside Sheet, we also cover Petersfield (1 mile south-west), Steep (1 mile north-west), Steep Marsh (1 mile north-west), Stroud (2 miles west) and Oakshott (2 miles north-west). Further out, we also take the van to Havant (11 miles south), Horndean (8 miles south-west), Alton (10 miles north), Waterlooville (10 miles south-west), Purbrook (11 miles south-west) and Bordon (7 miles north).

Other landmarks nearby include Petersfield Community Hospital (1.3 miles south-west) and Bear Museum (1.1 miles south-west). The countryside around Sheet includes Liss Riverside Railway Walk South and Wheatham Hill.

  • Local schools include Churcher's College (0.6 miles south-west) and The Petersfield School (1.4 miles south-west)
  • Pubs nearby include The Queens Head pub (under half a mile south)

Prices and what affects them

These are the factors that matter most:

  • Cod, haddock or both
  • The day of the week
  • How far we travel
  • Service time

Cost depends on numbers, menu and service time, along with distance and access to the site. Every booking gets its own quote.

Details that help

For a quote, it helps to have:

  • Roughly how many people, including children
  • Any dietary needs and allergies
  • How to get in: gates, lanes and ground
  • The spot you have in mind for the van

The quickest way to a quote is to fill in our quote form. Tell us about your staff event in Sheet, and we’ll check the date and send a price.

Working with your venue

Wedding planners and venue coordinators are welcome to contact us directly, and we will keep everyone informed on the day.

If your event is in a public place, such as a park or a street, check what permission you need first. The council or landowner will tell you what they need.

Sheet questions

Is Sheet close to London?

About 49 miles from central London, and well within our area.

Can the van go to venues in the South Downs National Park?

Yes. Some venues there have rules about vehicles and ground, so check with yours. We’ll follow the site rules.

What about staff who do not eat fish?

Sausage and chips and pie and chips are on the menu. Tell us about other diets and we’ll tell you what we can offer.

Which areas do you serve?

We take the van across London and the South East, including Hampshire. Find your area.

What food do you serve?

The classics: cod or haddock and chips, sausages and pies, plus mushy peas, curry sauce and gravy. Our menu has the details.

Do you bring everything you need?

Everything is cooked in the van. Let us know what’s available at the site and we’ll confirm what we need.

Is there something for children?

Children are very welcome. Tell us how many children, and we’ll include them in the plan.

Who clears up?

We clear the van’s area after service. Tell us where bins can go for people’s paper and trays.

A chip van compared with other options

A big takeaway order arrives late and lukewarm. The van cooks on site. Travel, tolls and charges such as ULEZ can affect the price, so it helps to give us the postcode.

Why Sheet hosts choose us

  • Fish and chips fried fresh on site
  • Mushy peas, curry sauce and gravy on the side
  • Bookings across Hampshire, including Sheet
  • No kitchen, no crockery, no washing up

Where the van can park in Sheet

If a spot isn’t suitable, we’ll tell you, and suggest an alternative. The main points are:

  • A level hardstanding, drive or firm lawn
  • Room in front of the hatch for a queue
  • A route in without tight gates or low branches

Not sure about the spot? Send us a picture and we will tell you honestly.

The process

Here’s how the day typically runs: the van arrives and we set up, the oil comes up to temperature, and we serve hot from the hatch when you are ready to eat. Lunchtime staff treats in Sheet are in daylight all year round, but later events need lighting: it’s dark by about 4:00pm in December.

  1. Start with three things: the date, the place and a rough headcount.
  2. Show us where the van would go, and we’ll confirm it works.
  3. A week or so before, we confirm timings and numbers.
  4. We park, open the hatch and start frying for your staff.
  5. Once the last portion is out, we pack up and go.

How to prepare

  • Send us final numbers and any allergies in good time
  • Let us know the serving time
  • Plan a bit of cover near the hatch if rain is likely

Ask for a quote

We only need a few details to quote: the date, where the van would park, roughly how many people and when you’d like to eat. To send them, fill in our quote form.

How to compare vans

Allergies and dietary needs

We need to know about dietary needs and allergies in advance, and we’ll be straight with you about what’s possible. To get it right:

  • A pre-order helps with numbers and allergies
  • Share the shift pattern
  • Ask facilities what paperwork they need
  • Ask staff about allergies with a simple form

A quick message to staff when the van opens helps.

Somewhere to sit outside helps.

  • Fried fresh to order in the van at your event
  • Cod, haddock and chips, sausages and pies
  • The van comes to you: homes, venues, workplaces and fields
  • Served at the time you choose, from the hatch
