Planning a chip van in Bedhampton

Bedhampton is about 1 mile south-west of Havant, in Hampshire. We take a fish and chip van to drives, car parks, yards and venues around Bedhampton. Bedhampton is one of 683 towns and villages in Hampshire where we bring the van. We serve events right across the region, from Bedhampton to Southampton (about 18 miles away).

For anyone arriving by rail, Bedhampton station serves Bedhampton directly. For a christening or celebration after a service at a church such as St Nicholas Church, the van can serve at a hall or home nearby. Bedhampton is within about 6 miles of the sea, and fish and chips always feels right near the sea. Sea breezes can be strong, so we think about where the queue will stand.

We take the van to events all over the PO9 postcode area. From Palk Road, Knox Road and Mill Lane or a nearby road, we can park up and fry there. For events just outside Bedhampton, we cover Farlington (1 mile south-west), Purbrook (2 miles north-west), Drayton (2 miles west), Widley (2 miles west) and Waterlooville (2 miles north-west). We also serve nearby towns such as Gosport (7 miles south-west), Fareham (8 miles west), Horndean (4 miles north), Hedge End (14 miles west), Petersfield (11 miles north) and Locks Heath (12 miles west).

Nearby you will also find Warblington Castle (1.7 miles south-east) and Havant Museum (1.1 miles east). Within reach you’ll find Portsdown Hill and Southmoor Nature Reserve.

  • Nearby schools include Havant College (0.7 miles east)
  • Local pubs include The Golden Lion pub (within half a mile east)

Fish and chip van hire in Bedhampton, fried fresh

A fish and chip van works almost anywhere the van can park: a drive, a car park, a yard, a showground or a firm lawn. Typical bookings include festive get-togethers and birthday celebrations, with gravy, mushy peas and cod and chips.

A place like Bedhampton frequently has a hall, a club or a pub car park nearby; the van can work at any of them, with permission. You will know what’s included before you book: serving times, the menu and anything else agreed, with no surprises on the day.

How it works

We get there well before service, set up and bring the oil up to temperature. Your guests can wander over to the hatch as soon as we open. Evening events need a little planning for light: around Bedhampton, it stays light until about 9:20pm at midsummer, while in December the light goes at about 4:00pm.

  1. First, you send us your date, address, numbers and serving time.
  2. You get a check on the date and the spot, and a quote.
  3. On the day we arrive in good time, park up and heat the fryers.
  4. We fry to order and serve from the hatch at the agreed time.
  5. We pack up afterwards and leave the spot as we found it.

Before we arrive

  • Plan a bit of cover near the hatch if rain is likely
  • Name one person we can call on the day
  • Confirm the van is allowed on site

How to get a price

We only need a few details to quote: the date, where the van would park, roughly how many people and when you’d like to eat. You can fill in our quote form.

Should I sort the food myself?

A DIY buffet works for small groups. For larger numbers, or when you want hot food, a van takes the pressure off, and nobody has to miss the event.

Deep-frying for lots of people at home is risky: big pans of hot oil, children and garden parties don’t mix. A van is designed for exactly this.

Is a fish and chip van right for your event?

Barbecues cook in batches, and someone has to stand over the grill. With a van, nobody misses the event. Compared with a sit-down meal, a fish and chip van is often good value, as there is no kitchen to hire and nothing to wash up. Ask us for a quote.

Why us?

  • Hot food handed straight over
  • Fish and chips fried fresh on site
  • All the chip-shop extras
  • A van that becomes part of the event

About the food

Mushy peas

No fish and chips is complete without mushy peas for many people.

Sausage and chips

Sausage and chips covers anyone who doesn’t want fish, and it is a favourite with children.

Common questions in Bedhampton

Is Bedhampton close to London?

Roughly 59 miles from the centre of London.

We are gathering after a service at St Nicholas Church: can you come?

Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby where the van can park. Churches rarely have space for a catering van, so the food is generally elsewhere. Send us the address.

Do you have a kids’ option?

Children are very welcome. Let us know numbers, and we’ll include them in the plan.

What do we need to supply?

Somewhere suitable to park, with permission. Tell us whether there is power or water nearby and we’ll take it from there.

How fast is service?

It depends on numbers, the menu and how people arrive. Tell us your numbers and how long you have for food, and we’ll plan service around it.

Cod or haddock?

Both are on our menu; we’ll agree the choice when we quote.

Can you park on the road outside?

Only in a legal space, or with the council’s permission. Ask your council early.

Can coeliacs eat the battered fish?

Not as standard: batter is normally made with wheat flour. Let us know and we’ll tell you what we can do.

Planning for dietary needs

Allergies are taken seriously. Help us by following these steps:

  • Add an allergy question to your invitations
  • Keep the menu short to keep the queue moving
  • Plan bins near the queue
  • Send allergies to us in writing

The oil needs time to come up to temperature, so we arrive well before service. If timings shift, we adapt.

Plan cover near the hatch if rain is possible.

How we price a fish and chip van

The price comes down to a few factors:

  • How long we serve
  • The number of meals
  • How easy the site is to reach
  • Distance and any road charges

The date matters too: peak summer weekends and Christmas party Fridays book up first. It’s worth asking early.

What we need to know

When you contact us, it helps to tell us:

  • Roughly how many people, including children
  • The date and time of the event
  • Dietary needs, with numbers
  • Access details such as gates and narrow lanes

Send us the date, the address or PO9 postcode and rough numbers, along with your serving time, and we will reply with a quote. To get started, use our quote form.

Space, access and the venue

We’ll be honest if a spot won’t work, and help find another. The main points are:

  • A lit spot if service runs after dark
  • Confirmation that the van can park there
  • Flat, firm ground for the van

Not sure about the spot? Send us a picture and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.
