Fish and chip van hire for Hazelwood events

Fish and chip van hire in Hazelwood, fried fresh

Queuing at the hatch is half the experience. People chat, the smell drifts across, and the food arrives hot. Typical bookings include wakes and gatherings after a funeral and big birthdays, serving pie and chips, curry sauce and gravy.

Somewhere as small as Hazelwood, a field, yard or drive is often the spot. Tell us about narrow lanes or long drives and we will plan for them, and firm, dry ground is the key. Timings are planned around your event, so the food is ready when you want to eat.

Allergies and dietary needs

Most events have a few guests with dietary needs. To plan for them:

  • Plan bins near the queue
  • Flag any coeliac guests, not just gluten-free preferences
  • Collect allergies with your RSVPs
  • Send allergies to us in writing

The fryers take a little while to heat, so we get there in good time. If plans change, tell us and we’ll adjust.

Put the menu up by the hatch so people decide while they wait.

Why fried-to-order beats a buffet

A plated meal needs a kitchen, more staff and usually costs more per head. A fish and chip van needs a level spot and permission to park. Cost depends on numbers, menu and service time, plus travel and access. Every booking gets its own quote.

Hazelwood questions

How far is Hazelwood from London?

Roughly 14 miles from the centre of London, and well within our area.

Can you serve after a service at St Mary's Church?

Yes, at a nearby hall, home or venue with somewhere for the van. Food is usually served at the reception venue rather than the church. Tell us where you’ll gather.

What if we only have street parking?

It depends on the road. A drive, car park or yard is normally easier; if it has to be the street, check with the council.

What does it cost to hire the van?

It depends on numbers, the menu, how long we serve and travel. Send us the details for a quote.

Do you fry it on site?

Yes. We cook inside the van, so it is fried on the spot, not cooked earlier and kept warm.

Do we need to provide equipment?

Everything is cooked in the van. Let us know what’s available at the site and we will confirm what we need.

How far ahead should we book?

As early as you can, especially for summer weekends and December. Even at short notice, it is worth asking.

Does a chip van work for big events?

It can be. Tell us your numbers and how long you have for food, and we’ll plan it with you.

Before you choose a spot

Plenty of places work for the van, but a few things matter:

  • A level hardstanding, drive or firm lawn
  • A short walk from the party
  • A route in without tight gates or low branches

Not sure about the spot? Send us a photo and we will tell you honestly.

Can’t we just order from the chip shop?

Deep-frying for lots of people at home is risky: big pans of hot oil, children and garden parties do not mix. A van is designed for exactly this.

You could do a chip-shop run for everyone yourself, but it rarely works for a crowd. Long waits and a drive home mean food arrives lukewarm and soggy. A van fries it right there, so it’s crisp.

What a fish and chip van costs

The same numbers can mean different prices, depending on:

  • The menu and how many choices
  • Peak dates such as summer Saturdays
  • Parking and the way in
  • How long we serve

The date matters too: peak summer weekends and Christmas party Fridays book up first. Ask about your date early.

Getting an accurate quote

We can quote more accurately with a few details. Here’s what’s useful:

  • Where you’d like the van to go
  • A picture of where the van would go
  • Allergies and diets you know about
  • The date and time of the event

Getting a quote is simple: share your date, address, rough numbers and when you’d like to eat. We’ll come back with a clear quote.

How it works

The first sign we’ve arrived is generally the smell. After that, it is a steady flow to the hatch. Evening events need a little planning for light: around Hazelwood, it stays light until about 9:20pm at midsummer, while in December the light goes at about 3:55pm.

  1. Contact us with the basics: when, where and roughly how many.
  2. Show us where the van would go, and we’ll confirm it works.
  3. A week or so before, we confirm timings and numbers.
  4. The van rolls up, the hatch opens and the fryers get going for your guests.
  5. Once the last portion is out, we pack up and go.

Preparing for the day
