Planning a party in Little Holbury

Little Holbury is about 2 miles south of Hythe, in Hampshire. In and around Little Holbury, the van can serve from a drive, a yard, a car park or a firm field, close to your guests. Little Holbury is one of 683 towns and villages in Hampshire where we bring the van. Our bookings stretch from Little Holbury to Southampton (about 6 miles away).

Guests arriving by train should know that Netley station, about 3.6 miles north-east, is the nearest station. A christening at The Good Shepherd followed by fish and chips on the drive is a simple, popular plan. Little Holbury is within about 3 miles of the New Forest National Park, so a garden party here comes with a lovely backdrop. The coast is within about 4 miles, so a chip van is a natural choice, and we always plan for wind.

Wherever your party is in SO45, we can fry fresh for your guests. Whether your party is on Southbourne Avenue, Manor Road and Westbourne Avenue or anywhere nearby, we will bring the van to you. We also bring the van to parties in Holbury (1 mile south-east), Hardley (1 mile north), Roughdown (1 mile south), Blackfield (1 mile south-east) and Frostlane (2 miles north). Looking after everyone

A little planning helps everyone eat safely. Here are a few tips:

  • Confirm allergies by email
  • Ask guests about allergies when they reply
  • Mention the van to neighbours
  • Show us where the van would go

It is worth telling the neighbours.

Bunting and festoon lights by the van make it part of the party.

Takeaway run or book a van?

Collecting fish and chips for a crowd yourself is possible, but it is hard work. By the time you’ve queued, paid and driven back, the batter has gone soft. With a van, it’s fried on the spot.

A DIY buffet works for small groups. For larger numbers, or when you want hot food, a van takes the pressure off, and you get to enjoy the day.

FAQs for Little Holbury

What about events near the coast?

Yes, of course. The cooking is inside the van, so wind doesn’t affect it, but the queue will want shelter.

What’s the nearest station to Little Holbury?

Netley station, about 3.6 miles north-east of the centre.

Do you have a kids’ option?

Children are very welcome. Tell us how many children, and we will plan for them.

Which areas do you serve?

London and South East England: Kent, Surrey, East and West Sussex, Hampshire, Berkshire, Bucks, Oxfordshire and the Isle of Wight, including Little Holbury.

Can you cook in the rain?

Rain doesn’t stop the fryers: the cooking is inside the van. It’s worth planning some cover for the queue.

Do you do anything other than fish?

Yes: sausage and chips or pie and chips. Give us a rough idea of numbers.

Can the van park on grass?

Frequently, if the ground is firm and dry. After heavy rain, soft grass can be a problem for any vehicle, so have a hard-surface back-up.

What do you bring?

All the cooking happens in the van. Let us know what’s available at the site.

Organising for someone else?

Wedding planners and venue coordinators are welcome to contact us directly, and we’ll keep you updated on arrival and serving times.

Parks, greens and streets usually need permission for a catering van. Ask the council or landowner early.

Why fried-to-order beats a buffet

Buffets are simple but rarely memorable. A chip van gives guests something to talk about. Many fish and chip vans set a minimum, because the van, fuel and travel cost the same for a small group. Ask us what applies to your party.

Why us?

  • A clear quote before booking
  • Cod, haddock, sausages and pies
  • A van that becomes part of the event
  • Fish and chips fried fresh on site

See our prices page and what a fish and chip van costs.

The process

It is a relaxed, well-organised set-up. Arrival and serving times are agreed beforehand, set up where we have agreed, and get on with frying and serving. At midsummer, it is light in Little Holbury until about 9:20pm, so a garden party can run well into the evening. By late September sunset is around 7:10pm, so plan festoon lights for later parties.

  1. Tell us what you are planning and when you’d like to eat.
  2. You hear back on the date and the price.
  3. The van’s spot is fixed in advance.
  4. Batter, fish and chips all go into the fryer as people come up.
  5. The pitch is left tidy when we go.

How to prepare

  • Choose a level, firm spot for the van
  • Give us a contact for the day
  • Confirm the van is allowed on site
