Party fish and chip van for your party in Portsea

A chip van works for birthdays, garden parties and family celebrations. Everyone from toddlers to grandparents knows what they’re getting. We are frequently asked to cater retirement celebrations and anniversary celebrations, serving curry sauce, sausage and chips and cod and chips.

For a party in Portsea, home is frequently the best venue. Let us know how the van reaches the house, and we’ll do the rest. Everything we need comes with the van, and we pack up and leave the spot as we found it.

Diets, allergies and planning

Dietary needs are easiest to plan with some notice. We suggest:

  • Flag any coeliac guests
  • A picture of the parking spot helps
  • Ask guests about allergies when they reply
  • Check parking restrictions if the van is on the street

It is worth telling the neighbours, or invite them.

Plan cover in case of showers.

How the day works

The first sign we have arrived is normally the smell. After that, it’s a steady flow to the hatch. Sunset in Portsea drops to about 7:10pm by late September and 4:00pm by December, so a lit spot for the van helps.

  1. First, tell us about your party.
  2. You get an availability check and a clear quote.
  3. Timings and the van’s spot are agreed in advance.
  4. We cook to order on the day for your guests.
  5. We serve from the hatch, then leave the pitch tidy.

How to prepare

  • Have a level parking spot ready
  • Plan a bit of cover near the hatch if rain is likely
  • Confirm numbers and dietary needs before the day

Planning help

Prices and what affects them

Your quote will be clear. The main things that affect it are:

  • Distance and any road charges
  • Cod, haddock or both
  • Access and parking
  • How long we serve

When you compare quotes, check what each one includes: hours, menu, travel, minimum charge and VAT. Our quotes spell it all out.

What to tell us

You don’t need every detail fixed to get a quote, but it helps to know:

  • The date and when you’d like to eat
  • Where the event is
  • Expected numbers
  • Where you’d like the van to go

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote: the parking spot, access, numbers and serving time. A photo of the spot helps too. To send your details, send us your details through our quote form.

What comes out of the fryer

Pie and chips

A pie and chips is proper comfort food, and it’s a favourite in colder months.

Haddock and chips

Haddock has loyal fans: sweeter and a touch firmer than cod. Tell us if you’d like to offer it.

Cannot we just order from the chip shop?

You could do a chip-shop run for everyone yourself, but it rarely works for a crowd. By the time you’ve queued, paid and driven back, the batter has gone soft. With a van, it’s fried on the spot.

Ordering from a local shop? Call ahead and collect at the last minute. For anything more than a handful of people, a van is generally the easier option.

Portsea questions

Is Portsea close to London?

About 65 miles from central London, and we cover it as standard.

What about events near the coast?

Yes, of course. Wind doesn’t affect the fryers, but plan a sheltered spot for the queue.

Do you need power or water from us?

A suitable spot for the van, mainly. Mention power and water and we will confirm the rest.

Where can the van park?

A level, firm spot it can drive onto, close to where people will eat, and space for a queue. Tell us about gates, lanes and soft ground.

Is everything cooked fresh?

Yes, always. We fry to order in the van at your venue, then handed over hot from the hatch.

What happens if it rains?

We carry on in the rain, because the cooking happens inside. Very soft ground can be a problem, so plan a back-up spot on a hard surface.

How soon do we need to book?

Early, particularly for summer Saturdays and Christmas party Fridays. Even at short notice, it is worth asking.

How long will the queue be?

Keeping choices simple and sending people up in groups helps. We’ll talk it through when we quote.

Is a fish and chip van right for your party?

Compared with cooking a barbecue yourself, the host is not stuck cooking all afternoon. The date matters too: summer Saturdays and December Fridays are the busiest days of the year. Ask about your date early.

Why us?

  • A van that becomes part of the event
  • Events in Portsea and across Portsmouth
  • All the chip-shop extras
