A fish and chip van or other catering?
Hog roasts are a wedding favourite, but it is one dish, and some guests don’t eat pork. A chip van offers fish, sausages and pies. There’s no one-size-fits-all price for a fish and chip van. A short service and a long afternoon’s trading are very different bookings. We set everything out in your quote.
Why us?
- Quick service from the hatch
- Fish and chips fried fresh on site
- No kitchen needed
- Something for guests to gather round

Step by step
If the plan changes on the day, a quick word is all it takes: we can start a little later or slow the pace to suit your wedding. In Bassett, midsummer sunset is about 9:25pm, and by late September it’s nearer 7:10pm, which means evening fish and chips is frequently served in daylight in June and July. For autumn and winter weddings, when it’s dark by about 4:00pm in December, plan lighting by the van.
- Start with three things: the date, the place and a rough headcount.
- A picture of the parking spot helps us check the van will fit.
- A week or so before, we confirm timings and numbers.
- The van rolls up, the hatch opens and the fryers get going for your guests.
- Last portion served, we tidy up and head off.
Getting ready for the day
- Send us final numbers and any allergies in good time
- Let us know the serving time
- Confirm the van is allowed on site
How to get a price
It is easy to get a price: tell us the date, place, numbers and serving time. We will come back with a clear quote.

Should I sort the food myself?
Ordering in from a local chip shop is an option. Large orders are slow, and the food cools in the bags. A van cooks in front of your guests instead.
Not sure whether to order in or book a van? Consider your numbers and how fresh you want it. Ask us for a quote and compare.
Bassett: your questions answered
Is Bassett close to London?
About 69 miles from central London, and well within our area.
What’s the nearest station to Bassett?
The closest is Swaythling station, roughly 1.5 miles away.
When should evening food go out?
At the time you choose. Most couples go for just after the first dance.
Do you bring everything you need?
All the cooking happens in the van. Tell us about power, water and bins at the site and we’ll confirm what we need.
Is the food cooked at the event?
It is. We cook inside the van, so it is fried on the spot, not cooked earlier and kept warm.
Is there something for children?
Yes. Sausage and chips is a favourite with children. Include children in your numbers.
Who clears up?
The pitch is left as we found it. It helps to have bins near the hatch.
Where will the van go at our venue?
Your venue decides, but close to the party is best. Send us a photo of the spot.
Food your guests will love
Gravy
A pot of gravy turns chips into comfort food.
Mushy peas
Mushy peas are made from dried marrowfat peas, soaked and cooked until soft. They’re the classic side with fish and chips.
