Once the fryers are on, guests find the van on their own. People chat in the queue and come back with full hands. For relaxed, informal receptions and wedding after-parties, we will put together a menu of curry sauce, sausage and chips and mushy peas.

A wedding in a small place like Burwash frequently means a field, a barn or a family garden. A chip van is made for that: no kitchen, just firm ground nearby. Let us know about access and ground. The process

The first sign we’ve arrived is generally the smell. After that, it’s a steady flow to the hatch. In Burwash, midsummer sunset is about 9:15pm, and by late September it’s nearer 7:00pm, so evening food at about 8:30pm is in daylight in high summer. For autumn and winter weddings, when it is dark by about 3:55pm in December, plan lighting by the van.

  1. Start with three things: the date, the place and a rough headcount.
  2. A picture of the parking spot helps us check the van will fit.
  3. A week or so before, we confirm timings and numbers.
  4. We park, open the hatch and start frying for your guests.
  5. Last portion served, we tidy up and head off.

Preparing for the day

  • Keep space clear for guests at the hatch
  • Make sure the van can get in
  • Share the timings for the day

15 questions to ask before you book

What comes out of the fryer

Pie and chips

Pie and chips is hearty and filling, and it’s especially welcome on a cold day.

Gravy

Gravy brings a bit of warmth to the meal.

Why fried-to-order beats a buffet

Hog roasts are a wedding favourite, but it is one dish, and some guests don’t eat pork. A van gives a choice of fish, sausage or pie. Comparing vans? Look at what each quote includes: hours, menu, travel, minimum charge and VAT. Our quotes spell it all out.

Burwash: your questions answered

We’re gathering after a service at The Parish Church of St Bartholomew: can you come?

Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby where the van can park. Food is generally served at the reception venue rather than the church. Tell us where you’ll gather.

What’s the nearest station to Burwash?

The closest is Stonegate station, roughly 1.8 miles away.

Can the van be part of the photos?

Many couples love having it in the photos. If not, ask your venue to park it out of the main photo spots.

Is everything cooked fresh?

Yes. We cook inside the van, so it is fried on the spot, not cooked earlier and kept warm.

What if the weather’s bad?

Rain does not stop the fryers: the cooking is inside the van. Guests will appreciate cover near the hatch.

How long will the queue be?

A short menu and staggered groups keep things moving. Tell us your timings and we’ll advise.

Do you have allergen information?

Let us know about allergies in advance, and we’ll give you the allergen information and what we can offer.

Where will the van go at our venue?

Usually, with the venue’s agreement and firm ground. We’ll check access with you and the venue.

Can’t we just order from the chip shop?

If you do order from a chip shop, ring well ahead and collect as close to eating time as you can. For a crowd, a van is generally simpler.

Frying for a crowd at home isn’t a good idea: hot oil and a busy party are a bad combination. A van is designed for exactly this.

Prices and what affects them

Every booking is priced individually, and the price depends on a few things:

  • Distance and any road charges
  • Access and parking
  • The day of the week
  • The minimum booking

The date matters too: peak summer weekends and Christmas party Fridays book up first. Ask about your date early.

Details that help

The more we know about your wedding, the better we can plan. Try to include:

  • How to get in: gates, lanes and ground
  • The venue or postcode
  • Allergies and diets you know about
  • The date and when you’d like to eat

Every quote is worked out for your event. Start with your date, and we’ll check availability straight away.

For planners, venues and organisers

For larger numbers, tell us how long you have for food, so we can plan how to keep the queue short. Staggering groups helps a lot.

If you’re booking for a business, tell us how you’d like to handle the booking and payment, and we’ll explain how it works. We can work with your facilities team on access and timings.

  • Fried fresh to order in the van at your event
  • Cod, haddock and chips, sausages and pies
  • The van comes to you: homes, venues, workplaces and fields
  • Served at the time you choose, from the hatch
