A chip van near Ferring

Wedding fish and chip van for your wedding in Ferring

Timings are planned with you and the venue, so service fits around the first dance, the cake and the band. We are often asked to cater second-day and after-party food and weddings in a marquee or garden, with haddock and chips, sausage and chips and cod and chips.

In Ferring, a local ceremony and a marquee reception is a lovely, personal choice. We park close by for evening food. Tell us about access to the field or garden. The fryers are in the van, so the cooking happens right there at your wedding, so the batter is still crisp when it’s handed over.

Planners, venues and businesses

If you’re booking for a business, tell us how you’d like to handle the booking and payment, and we will talk you through the process. We can work with your facilities team on access and timings.

Wedding planners and venue coordinators are welcome to contact us directly, and we will keep you updated on arrival and serving times.

Before you choose a spot

Before the day, we will agree where the van parks. A good spot ticks these boxes:

  • A level hardstanding, drive or firm lawn
  • A spot near your guests
  • A clear area by the serving hatch

If you are unsure, send a photo of the space and the way in, and we’ll say what we think before booking.

What we serve

  • Sausage and chips
  • Mushy peas
  • Curry sauce
  • Haddock and chips
  • Cod and chips
  • Evening fish and chips

The process

Service is quick: everything is handed over hot from the hatch. Afterwards we pack up. Golden-hour photos in Ferring at midsummer come around 9:20pm, which helps us time evening food around your photos. Sunset is around 8:50pm in late May and 7:05pm in late September.

  1. Tell us what you are planning and when you’d like to eat.
  2. You hear back on the date and the price.
  3. The van’s spot is fixed in advance.
  4. On the day, everything is cooked to order, so nothing sits in a hot cabinet.
  5. We leave the spot as we found it.

How to prepare

  • Arrange somewhere dry for the queue
  • Share the timings for the day
  • Get permission for the van from the venue

Weddings in Ferring: venues, ceremonies and travel

Ferring is about 2 miles south-west of Worthing, in West Sussex. Whether your wedding is in the middle of Ferring or on the outskirts, the service works the same way: fish and chips fried to order, served hot and quoted clearly. We take the van to all 371 towns and villages across West Sussex. Our bookings stretch from Ferring to Brighton (14 miles away).

Wedding photographers in the area frequently head for Highdown Hill. Historic houses near Ferring include Ecclesden Manor (1.6 miles north-west). Historic houses and estates frequently have rules on catering vans, so check early if that is your venue. With the South Downs National Park within about 8 miles, there are country venues, barns and gardens nearby. Check vehicle access with the venue. The sea is within about 4 miles, perfect for a seaside-themed wedding. We will think about shelter from sea breezes.

Anywhere in BN12, we can bring the van to you, from busy streets to quiet lanes. DIY versus a fish and chip van

Ordering from a local shop? Call ahead and collect at the last minute. For anything more than a handful of people, a van is normally the easier option.

Frying for a crowd at home is not a good idea: hot oil and a busy party are a bad combination. A van is designed for exactly this.

About the food

Curry sauce

Curry sauce divides opinion and it is on the menu.

Cod and chips

Cod has big, soft white flakes and a mild flavour, and it’s what most people in the south ask for. We batter it and fry it to order.

What a fish and chip van costs

There is nothing hidden: the quote reflects:

  • The day of the week
  • Your choice of menu
  • The number of meals
  • Travel, tolls and road charges

The cost per head generally falls as numbers rise, because the van, travel and set-up cost much the same either way. Give us your numbers and we’ll quote.

What to tell us

To check availability and price, we need:

  • A picture of the space and the way in
  • Access details such as gates and narrow lanes
  • Where you’d like the van to go
  • Expected numbers

Tell us your date, venue or postcode and roughly how many people, along with your serving time, and you’ll get a clear price. Just send us your details through our quote form.

Looking after everyone

With a bit of planning, dietary needs are easier to handle. Here are a few tips:

  • Confirm the van can park at the venue
  • Have bins ready for paper and trays
  • Cater for most, not all, of the evening guest list
  • Include the band, photographer and venue staff

Sending tables up in turn keeps the queue short if you have plenty of guests.

Napkins or wet wipes by the van are a kindness to anyone in their wedding best.

A chip van compared with other options

A hog roast is a classic for weddings, but it’s pork only. A van gives a choice of fish, sausage or pie. Dates make a difference: summer Saturdays and December Fridays are the busiest days of the year. Ask about your date early.

Why book our van in Ferring

FAQs for Ferring

Is Ferring close to London?

Roughly 50 miles from the centre of London, and we cover it as standard.

Which station is closest to Ferring?

Goring-By-Sea station, about 0.9 miles north-east of the centre.

Does the batter contain gluten?

Not as standard: the batter contains wheat. Let us know and we’ll tell you what we can do before you book.

Will guests take photos at the van?

Often, yes, and it makes a fun photo. Add bunting or lights for the photos.

Can you go on a lawn or field?

Normally, if it is firm and dry. Soft, wet ground can trap any vehicle, so have a hard-surface back-up.

Who clears up?

The pitch is left as we found it. Bins for guests are worth planning.

Is the food cooked at the event?

It is. The fryers are in the van, so food is cooked there and then, rather than made in advance.

How much space do you need?

Level, firm ground the van can reach, near your guests, with room for a queue at the hatch. Tell us about gates, lanes and soft ground.

  • Fried fresh to order in the van at your event
  • Cod, haddock and chips, sausages and pies
  • The van comes to you: homes, venues, workplaces and fields
  • Served at the time you choose, from the hatch
