How our wedding fish and chip van works in Frostlane
Some evening guests arrive without having eaten, and day guests ate hours ago. Hot food fried to order looks after both. We are often asked to cater relaxed, informal receptions and evening food for day and evening guests, with sausage and chips, curry sauce and haddock and chips.
Rural weddings around Frostlane have a magic of their own, and fish and chips at dusk adds to it. Plan access and a back-up spot in case of rain. Food is served straight from the hatch, so it is hot and generous, and service is quick once we are up and running.
Frostlane questions
Can the van go to venues in the New Forest National Park?
Yes. Some venues there have rules about vehicles and ground, so check with yours. We will work to whatever the site needs.
Can you serve near the sea around Frostlane?
Yes, of course. The cooking is inside the van, so wind doesn’t affect it, but the queue will want shelter.
What can guests choose from?
Proper fish and chips, plus sausage or pie and chips. The sides are mushy peas, curry sauce and gravy.
What time will you serve?
Whenever suits your day. Most couples go for just after the first dance.
Is there something for children?
Children are very welcome. Let us know numbers, and we’ll plan for them.
How much is fish and chip van hire?
Every booking is quoted individually, so the price fits what you need. Give us your date, numbers and serving time and we will reply with a price.
Can the van be part of the photos?
Many couples love having it in the photos. If you’d rather not, we’ll park out of shot where possible.
How quickly can you serve everyone?
It depends on numbers, the menu and how people arrive. Tell us your numbers and how long you have for food, and we will plan service around it.
Looking after everyone
A little planning helps everyone eat safely. A few tips:
- Ask about dietary needs on the invitation
- Ask your venue about catering vans first
- Flag coeliac guests early
- Count suppliers working late
Once everyone has eaten, we pack up and leave you to the party.
Napkins or wet wipes by the van are a kindness to anyone in their wedding best.
What happens on the day
We don’t cook ahead. Each portion is battered and fried as it’s ordered, so it’s as fresh as from any chip shop. In Frostlane, midsummer sunset is about 9:25pm, and by late September it is nearer 7:10pm, so evening food at about 8:30pm is in daylight in high summer. For autumn and winter weddings, when it’s dark by about 4:00pm in December, plan lighting by the van.
- Tell us what you are planning and when you’d like to eat.
- You hear back on the date and the price.
- The van’s spot is fixed in advance, and how it gets in.
- On the day, everything is cooked to order, so nothing sits in a hot cabinet.
- We leave the spot as we found it.
Getting ready for the day

A sausage and chips is the chip-shop classic for younger guests and fish-dodgers, especially with curry sauce.
What the van needs
Every site is different, so we ask about the spot and the way in before we confirm. In general, we need:
- Access wide and high enough for the van
- A short walk from the party
- A lit spot if service runs after dark
If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise before booking.

Should I sort the food myself?
Not sure whether to order in or book a van? Think about numbers, timing and how hot you want the food. Ask us for a quote and compare.
A DIY buffet works for small groups. For bigger numbers, a van makes life easier, and nobody has to miss the wedding.
