Should I sort the food myself?

For a small group, making your own food can work. For larger numbers, or when you want hot food, a van takes the pressure off, and you get to enjoy the day.

Deep-frying for lots of people at home is risky: hot oil and a busy party are a bad combination. A van is designed for exactly this.

Is a fish and chip van right for your wedding?

A hog roast is a classic for weddings, but it is one dish, and some guests don’t eat pork. A van gives a choice of fish, sausage or pie. Larger groups usually cost less per head, since the van and set-up are much the same for any size. Tell us your numbers for an accurate price.

Why book with us

  • Served hot, straight from the hatch
  • No kitchen, no crockery, no washing up
  • Everything cooked to order at your event
  • We cook inside the van, whatever the weather

What happens on the day

Nothing is cooked before it’s needed. Each portion is battered and fried as it’s ordered, so it is as fresh as from any chip shop. In Watersfield, midsummer sunset is about 9:20pm, and by late September it’s nearer 7:05pm, so evening food at about 8:30pm is in daylight in high summer. For autumn and winter weddings, when it is dark by about 4:00pm in December, plan lighting by the van.

  1. Start with three things: the date, the place and a rough headcount.
  2. Show us where the van would go, and we will confirm it works.
  3. A week or so before, we confirm timings and numbers.
  4. We park, open the hatch and start frying for your guests.
  5. Last portion served, we tidy up and head off.

Getting ready for the day

  • Think about a gazebo by the van in case of rain
  • Clear the route for the van
  • Get permission for the van from the venue

What comes out of the fryer

Mushy peas

Proper mushy peas start with dried marrowfat peas. They’re the classic side with fish and chips.

Cod and chips

Cod is the classic: mild, white and flaky, and it is the favourite in much of the south. We batter it and fry it to order.

Organising for someone else?

Parks, greens and streets normally need permission for a catering van. Ask the council or landowner early.

Planners and coordinators can contact us directly, and we will keep you updated on arrival and serving times.

Prices and what affects them

Here’s what makes the biggest difference to the price:

  • Peak dates such as summer Saturdays
  • Cod, haddock or both
  • Service time
  • How far we travel

Dates make a difference: summer Saturdays and December Fridays are the busiest days of the year. Ask about your date early.

What we need to know

Good planning starts with a few facts. Try to include:

  • Access details such as gates and narrow lanes
  • The date and when you’d like to eat
  • Any dietary needs and allergies
  • The address or venue name

The quickest way to a quote is to send us your details through our quote form. Tell us about your wedding in Watersfield, and we will come back with availability and a quote.

Your questions about a fish and chip van for your wedding in Watersfield

We are gathering after a service at The Parish Church of St Giles: can you come?

Yes, at a nearby hall, home or venue with somewhere for the van. Churches rarely have space for a catering van, so the food is normally elsewhere. Tell us where you’ll gather.

Do you come out to small places like Watersfield?

Not at all. We serve villages and hamlets as well as towns. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

How do you handle allergies?

Let us know about allergies in advance, and we’ll give you the allergen information and what we can offer.

Can the van be part of the photos?

Many couples love having it in the photos. If you’d rather not, we’ll park out of shot where possible.

Can you go on a lawn or field?

Normally, if it is firm and dry. Soft, wet ground can trap any vehicle, so have a hard-surface back-up.

How long are you on site?

We arrive well before service to park and heat the fryers. We’ll agree arrival and serving times with you.

How long will the queue be?

Keeping choices simple and sending people up in groups helps. We will talk it through when we quote.

Do you need power or water?

Let us know about power and water at the site in your enquiry, and we’ll say what we need.

  • Fried fresh to order in the van at your event
  • Cod, haddock and chips, sausages and pies
  • The van comes to you: homes, venues, workplaces and fields
  • Served at the time you choose, from the hatch
