Wedding fish and chip van in Wyck, fried fresh

The van parks near the marquee, barn or venue, and guests drift out to queue and chat. It turns evening food into part of the celebration. We serve sausage and chips, mushy peas and haddock and chips, and we’re often booked for coastal-themed receptions and evening food for day and evening guests.

Rural weddings around Wyck have a magic of their own, and fish and chips at dusk adds to it. Plan access and a back-up spot in case of rain. Your quote spells out what’s included: the date, the service time and the menu, with no surprises on the day.

Why fried-to-order beats a buffet

A hog roast is a classic for weddings, but it is one dish, and some guests don’t eat pork. A chip van offers fish, sausages and pies. The cost per head generally falls as numbers rise, because the van, travel and set-up cost much the same either way. Give us your numbers and we will quote.

Why us?

  • Works on wet days as well as sunny ones
  • Cod, haddock, sausages and pies
  • Mushy peas, curry sauce and gravy on the side
  • Fish and chips fried fresh on site

Take a look at our prices page and what a fish and chip van costs.

For planners, venues and organisers

If you run the same event each year, tell us your dates early, so we can hold the date.

If you are booking for a business, tell us how you’d like to handle the booking and payment, and we will explain how it works. We can work with your facilities team on access and timings.

What happens on the day

We do not cook ahead. Each portion is battered and fried as it’s ordered, so it’s as fresh as from any chip shop. Golden-hour photos in Wyck at midsummer come around 9:20pm, which helps us time evening food around your photos. Sunset is around 8:55pm in late May and 7:05pm in late September.

  1. We start with your date, venue, numbers and running order.
  2. We check access at the venue and send a price.
  3. We agree arrival and serving times with you and your venue.
  4. We cook to order on the day and serve right on cue.
  5. We pack up quietly once everyone has eaten.

Planning help

The menu, dish by dish

Cod and chips

Cod has big, soft white flakes and a mild flavour, and it is the favourite in much of the south. It is battered and fried to order, so it is crisp when it reaches you.

Mushy peas

No fish and chips is complete without mushy peas for many people.

Diets, allergies and planning

Allergies are taken seriously. Here’s how you can help:

  • Not every evening guest eats: ask us how many to plan for
  • Add an allergy question to your RSVP card
  • Plan bins by the hatch
  • Plan something for guests we can’t cater for

Remember the band, photographer and venue staff when you give us numbers.

Ask your band or DJ to tell guests the van is open.

Why choose wedding fish and chip van in Wyck?

Rain doesn’t stop the fryers, which takes one worry off the list.

The van suits big events and small ones. Typical bookings include:

  • Laid-back receptions
  • Vow renewals and anniversaries
  • Pre-wedding get-togethers
  • Second-day and after-party food

It is worth telling train travellers that the nearest station is Alton station, about 2.2 miles west.

Comparing caterers

  • What they can offer for dietary needs
  • The cancellation terms
  • What the van needs: space, access, power
  • The deadline for final numbers

15 questions to ask before you book

DIY versus a fish and chip van

Ordering from a local shop? Call ahead and collect at the last minute. For a crowd, a van is generally simpler.

DIY food keeps costs down, but the host spends the event serving. With a fish and chip van, you get hot food without the work.

Wyck: your questions answered

Do you come out to small places like Wyck?

No, we come to small places too. Let us know about access and parking.

How far is Wyck from London?

About 43 miles from central London, and we cover it as standard.

Is the fish gluten-free?

Standard batter is made with wheat flour, so battered fish contains gluten. Tell us about coeliac guests when you enquire, and we’ll be straight with you about what’s possible.

Which areas do you serve?

London and the South East: Kent, Surrey, East and West Sussex, Hampshire, Berkshire, Bucks, Oxfordshire and the Isle of Wight.

What if the weather’s bad?

We cook inside the van, so rain doesn’t stop us. Guests will appreciate cover near the hatch.

Will guests take photos at the van?

Frequently, yes, and it makes a fun photo. Add bunting or lights for the photos.

Is there a non-fish option?

Sausage and chips and pie and chips are on the menu. Tell us about other diets and we’ll be honest about what’s possible.

Who clears up?

We clear the van’s area after service. Let us know about bins for guests.
