How our corporate fish and chip catering works in Shere

A chip van lunch is one of the simplest ways to say thank you to a team. It needs no kitchen and no room booking, and it gets people talking. For open days and customer events and retirement and leaving lunches, we’ll put together a menu of mushy peas, cod and chips and haddock and chips.

For farms and rural sites near Shere, a chip van brings a hot lunch to wherever the team is. Tell us about access. We keep the menu short: a few classics done properly keeps the food fresh and the queue moving.

Allergies and dietary needs

We need to know about dietary needs and allergies in advance, and we’ll tell you honestly what we can offer. To make it work smoothly:

  • Ask staff about allergies with a simple form
  • Tell us about coeliac staff specifically
  • Plan an alternative for anyone we can’t cater for
  • Send allergies to us in writing

Keep the queue clear of fire exits and traffic.

A few tables or benches outside make it a proper break.

Organising for someone else?

Planners and coordinators can contact us directly, and we’ll keep you updated on arrival and serving times.

Many venues set rules for catering vans: parking spots, arrival times and documents. Send us your venue’s requirements and we will confirm what we can provide.

Shere for staff days and team lunches

Shere is about 5 miles east of Guildford, in Surrey. Around Shere, we park wherever there’s level, firm ground, close to your staff. Shere is one of 395 towns and villages in Surrey where we bring the van.

Central London is about 25 miles from Shere, and we cover it as standard. Nearby historic houses include Hatchlands Park (2.6 miles north) and Chilworth Manor (2.8 miles west). Historic venues suit client days, but check their vehicle rules before planning a van. The Surrey Hills National Landscape is within about a mile, which suits team days in the countryside.

We serve staff events across the GU5 postcode area. From Lower Street, Orchard Road and Shere Lane or anywhere nearby, we’ll bring the van to you. If your venue is just outside Shere, we also cover Gomshall (1 mile east), Albury Heath (1 mile south-west), Little London (1 mile south-west), Albury (1 mile west) and Abinger Hammer (1 mile east). Within a short drive, we also cover Guildford (5 miles west), Woking (8 miles north-west), Camberley (14 miles north-west), Epsom (12 miles north-east), Horley (13 miles east) and Redhill (13 miles east).

Nearby you will also find Shere Museum (less than half a mile east) and Abinger Castle (2.8 miles south-east). Open spaces near Shere include Silent Pool and St Martha's Hill.

  • Local pubs include The White Horse Public House (under half a mile south-east)

What the van needs

Before the day, we’ll agree where the van parks. It needs to tick a few simple boxes:

  • Flat, firm ground for the van
  • A route in without tight gates or low branches
  • Permission from the venue or landowner for the van

If you’re unsure, send a photo of the space and the way in, and we’ll say what we think.

From the hatch

About the food

Haddock and chips

Haddock is a little sweeter than cod, with a finer, firmer flake. In the north and in Scotland, haddock is the classic.

Cod and chips

Cod and chips is the meal most people picture when they think of a chip shop. Fried to order in the van, it goes out hot and crisp.

Should I sort the food myself?

If you do order from a chip shop, ring well ahead and collect as close to eating time as you can. For anything more than a handful of people, a van is generally the easier option.

Frying for a crowd at home isn’t a good idea: big pans of hot oil, children and garden parties don’t mix. Leave the frying to a van built for it.

A fish and chip van or other catering?

Compared with a sandwich platter, fish and chips feels like a real thank-you. A chip van frequently compares well with a plated meal, because it needs no kitchen and no crockery hire. We will send you a quote.

Why us?

  • Cod, haddock, sausages and pies
  • All the chip-shop extras
  • No kitchen needed
  • Something for staff to gather round

The process

A typical booking goes like this: we arrive, park up and set up, the oil comes up to temperature, and we serve hot from the hatch at the agreed time. For a staff lunch in Shere, daylight isn’t an issue, but a winter evening event is dark by about 3:55pm, so plan lighting for later events. Summer events have daylight until around 9:20pm.

  1. You share your date, numbers and address.
  2. We check access for the van and quote.
  3. We arrive in good time to set up.
  4. Fish goes into the batter and straight into the fryer, to order.
  5. Service is straight from the hatch, then we pack up.

Preparing for the day

  • Tell us when you want to eat
  • Confirm numbers and dietary needs before the day
  • Choose a level, firm spot for the van

We only need a few details to quote: the date, where the van would park, roughly how many people and when you’d like to eat. To send them, use our quote form.
