How our film set catering works in Hillyfields
Everything is cooked as crew come up, so lunch is hot and fresh. For location shoots and wrap celebrations, we can cook mushy peas, cod and chips and pie and chips for your guests.
Near Hillyfields, base may be a field or yard. The fryers are in the van, so the cooking happens right there at your shoot, so the batter is still crisp when it’s handed over.

- Name a contact in the production office
- Agree how the base is left
- Add an allergy question to crew forms
- Send final numbers the day before

A gazebo by the van keeps the line dry.

Should I sort the food myself?
For a small group, making your own food can work. For bigger numbers, a van makes life easier, and you get to enjoy the day.
Collecting fish and chips for a crowd yourself is possible, but it’s hard work. By the time you’ve queued, paid and driven back, the batter has gone soft. A van fries it right there, so it is crisp.
Is a fish and chip van right for your shoot?
Some locations have nowhere to buy food. The van solves that. Larger groups generally cost less per head, since the van and set-up are much the same for any size. Give us your numbers and we’ll quote.

Hillyfields: your questions answered
Do you come to venues in the New Forest National Park?
Yes, though some venues in protected landscapes have extra rules for vehicles; ask your venue. We’ll follow the site rules.
What about events near the coast?
Yes. Wind doesn’t affect the fryers, but plan a sheltered spot for the queue.
Who clears up?
We take the van and everything with it, and leave the spot tidy. It helps to have bins near the hatch.
What about crew who don’t eat fish?
There is: sausage and chips or pie and chips. Tell us roughly how many to expect.
Can the van park on the street?
That depends on local parking rules. Off-road parking is usually simpler; if it has to be the street, check with the council.
Is there something for children?
Children are very welcome. Let us know numbers, and we will include them in the plan.
What if the weather’s bad?
We carry on in the rain, because the cooking happens inside. Soft ground after heavy rain is the bigger issue, so have a hard-surface spot in mind.
Do you need power or water?
A suitable spot for the van and permission to park there. Mention any power or water available and we’ll confirm the rest.
