Film set catering in Stonebridge, fried fresh

Locations and the production office can deal with us directly. On the menu are mushy peas, sausage and chips and pie and chips, and we’re regularly asked to cater treat days on a long shoot and commercials and music videos.

Shoots in Stonebridge frequently use streets, yards and car parks as unit bases. Locations will have the parking arrangements, frequently with council permission. The menu is short on purpose: a few classics done properly keeps the food fresh and the queue moving.

The process

We get there well before service, set up and bring the oil up to temperature. Your crew can wander over to the hatch once service starts. At midsummer, Stonebridge has light until about 9:20pm.

  1. You share your date, numbers and address.
  2. We check the route in and send a price.
  3. We arrive in good time to set up.
  4. Fish goes into the batter and straight into the fryer, to order.
  5. Service is straight from the hatch, then we pack up.

How to prepare

  • Leave room in front of the hatch for a queue
  • Share the timings for the day
  • Choose a level, firm spot for the van

The menu, dish by dish

Mushy peas

Proper mushy peas start with dried marrowfat peas. They’re the classic side with fish and chips.

Gravy

In the north and the Midlands, gravy is the side of choice, and it goes perfectly with a pie.

Planning the van’s spot

No two venues are the same, so we will ask about yours when you contact us. Generally, we look for:

  • Lighting for early or late service
  • Away from the shooting area’s sound
  • The location’s agreement

Stonebridge is in London, within the Ultra Low Emission Zone, and parking can be tight: let us know about off-street space or permits.

If you’re unsure, send a photo of the space and the way in, and we’ll say what we think before you book.

Stonebridge questions

Could you trade in St. Raphael's Edible Garden?

Only with permission from the park’s owner, generally the council. Ask them first, and tell us what they say.

What about parking in Stonebridge?

London parking needs planning: let us know about off-street space or permits. We will plan around it.

Does the batter contain gluten?

Standard batter is made with wheat flour, so battered fish contains gluten. Tell us about coeliac crew when you enquire, and we will tell you honestly what we can offer.

Can the van park on the street?

Only in a legal space, or with the council’s permission. Ask your council early.

When do you arrive?

We get there in good time to set up. We will agree arrival and serving times with you so food is ready when you want it.

Is the food cooked at the event?

It is. The fryers are in the van, so food is cooked there and then, not cooked earlier and kept warm.

What does it cost to hire the van?

It depends on numbers, the menu, how long we serve and travel. Send us the details for a quote.

Where does the van go on location?

Yes, wherever locations agree; we’ll check the route.

Should I sort the food myself?

Ordering in from a local chip shop is an option. The problem is timing: big orders take a long time, and the food is cooling while it travels. A van solves that by cooking on site.

Doing the food yourself saves money, but the host ends up running around. Booking the van means hot food and no stress.
