Film set catering in The City
Film set catering in The City, cooked to order
The van needs level, firm ground at the unit base, and a clear route in. Whether it is wrap celebrations and music video shoots, we’ll put together a menu of sausage and chips, cod and chips and haddock and chips for your guests.
Rural locations near The City can be a long way from food, so a van at base is a big help. The fryers are in the van, so the cooking happens right there at your shoot, so the batter is still crisp when it’s handed over.

Food your guests will love
Pie and chips
Pie and chips is hearty and filling, and it is especially welcome on a cold day.
Haddock and chips
Some people swear by haddock: a firmer flake and a sweeter taste. Tell us if you’d like to offer it.
Why fried-to-order beats a buffet
Long shoots usually need a full catering unit. A chip van suits short shoots and treat days. A chip van often compares well with a plated meal, as there’s no kitchen to hire and nothing to wash up. Ask us for a quote.
Why book our van in The City
- A menu almost everyone likes
- Everything cooked to order at your event
- Mushy peas, curry sauce and gravy on the side
- No surprises in your quote
Planning for dietary needs
With a little notice, diets are easier to plan for. Our advice:
- Plan bins and waste at base
- Send the unit base address and directions
- Ask for dietary needs on the crew info form
- Let us know about coeliac disease
Fewer choices mean faster service.
A chip van wrap party is a great way to finish a shoot.
How we price a fish and chip van for the crew
Fish and chip van pricing is simple once we know the basics:
- Whether a minimum applies
- The length of service
- The menu and how many choices
- The number of meals
Most vans have a minimum charge, since getting the van there costs the same however many eat. Ask us what applies to your shoot.
Getting an accurate quote
The more we know about your shoot, the better we can plan. Please include:
- Rough numbers for adults and children
- A photo of the space and the way in
- Where the event is
- The date and time of the event
Getting a quote is simple: share your date, address, rough numbers and when you’d like to eat. We’ll come back with a clear quote.
Working with your venue
Venues often have their own rules about outside caterers and vehicles: parking spots, arrival times and documents. Tell us what your venue needs and we will confirm what we can provide.
Parks, greens and streets generally need permission for a catering van. Ask the council or landowner early.
Planning the van’s spot
Before the day, we’ll agree where the van parks. A good spot ticks these boxes:
- A clear route to base
- Agreement from the location manager and landowner
- A level, firm spot at the unit base
Not sure about the spot? Send us a picture and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.

Step by step
Because we cook inside the van, rain doesn’t stop us. Crew will still appreciate a bit of cover near the hatch. Sunset in The City is about 8:55pm in late May, 9:25pm at midsummer and 7:05pm in late September; for dawn calls or late wraps, plan lighting at base.
- We start with a few details about your shoot.
- You get an availability check and a clear quote.

The City questions
Is The City too small for a chip van?
No, we come to small places too. Let us know about access and parking.
How far is The City from London?
Roughly 35 miles from the centre of London, and well within our area.
How long does set-up take?
That depends on your numbers and timings. We agree arrival, serving and finishing times with you before the day.
Is the food cooked at the event?
Yes. Everything is fried fresh in the van, and serve straight from the hatch.
Do you cater wrap parties?
Yes, it is a popular wrap. Tell us the details.
Where can the van park?
Less than you might think: a drive, a car park, a yard or a firm lawn, that the van can reach easily. Send us a photo if you are not sure.
What’s on the menu?
The classics: cod or haddock and chips, sausages and pies, with mushy peas, curry sauce and gravy. See the menu.
Is grass a problem?
Generally, if it’s firm and dry. Soft, wet ground can trap any vehicle, so have a hard-surface back-up.
