Why choose a fish and chip van in World's End?

Compared with sandwiches on set, hot fish and chips is a real lunch. Got a budget? Let us know, and we will suggest a menu and timing to match. Keeping the menu short is generally the best value.

Why book with us

  • Quick service from the hatch
  • Mushy peas, curry sauce and gravy on the side
  • A van that becomes part of the event
  • Rain does not stop the fryers

Take a look at how we price or our guide to van hire costs.

The process

On the day, we position the van, set up the hatch and get the fryers up to temperature. Once we are hot, we cook to order, timed around your shoot. Sunset in World's End is about 8:50pm in late May, 9:20pm at midsummer and 7:05pm in late September; for dawn calls or late wraps, plan lighting at base.

  1. Get in touch with the basics: when, where and roughly how many.
  2. Show us where the van would go, and we will confirm it works.
  3. A week or so before, we confirm timings and numbers.
  4. We park, open the hatch and start frying for the crew.
  5. Once the last portion is out, we pack up and go.

Before we arrive

  • Give us a contact for the day
  • Clear the route for the van
  • Tell us when you want to eat

Pie and chips

Pie and chips gives people a filling alternative to fish.

Gravy

Gravy brings a bit of warmth to the meal, especially in winter.

Takeaway run or book a van?

Some hosts try a takeaway order. The problem is timing: big orders take a long time, and the food is cooling while it travels. A van cooks in front of your crew instead.

If you do order from a chip shop, ring well ahead and collect as close to eating time as you can. For anything more than a handful of people, a van is usually the easier option.

For event organisers in World's End

Parks, greens and streets usually need permission for a catering van. The council or landowner will tell you what they need.

For larger numbers, tell us how long you have for food, so we can plan how to keep the queue short. Staggering groups helps a lot.

Planning for dietary needs

Nearly every event has some special diets. To look after them:

  • Name a contact in the production office
  • Send the unit base address and directions
  • Ask for dietary needs on the crew info form
  • Agree how the base is left

Supporting artists and visitors can be included in numbers.

Bins at base keep the location clean.

Choosing a fish and chip van

Planning the van’s spot

A fish and chip van is a vehicle, so the spot matters, and a little planning goes a long way. These are the things we check:

  • Light near the van if needed
  • A route in the van can manage, with no low branches or tight lanes
  • A level, firm spot at the unit base

As a London location, World's End is inside the Ultra Low Emission Zone, and parking takes planning: tell us about driveways, yards, car parks or a council parking suspension.

If you’re unsure, send a photo of the space and the way in, and we’ll say what we think.
