Fish and chip van hire in RG7: what to expect

If the van can park there, we can fry there: a driveway, a car park, a yard or a firm field in and around RG7. We are often asked to cater work Christmas parties and big birthdays, serving pie and chips, cod and chips and curry sauce.

Expect a friendly, organised set-up. Arrival and serving times are agreed beforehand, set up where we have agreed, and cook and serve without fuss.

  1. Tell us what you are planning and when you’d like to eat.
  2. You hear back on the date and the price.
  3. The van’s spot is fixed in advance.
  4. Batter, fish and chips all go into the fryer as people come up.
  5. We leave the spot as we found it.

What it costs in RG7

A chip van frequently compares well with a plated meal, as there’s no kitchen to hire and nothing to wash up. We will send you a quote.

For a christening or celebration after a service at a church such as Church of St Mary, the van can serve at a hall or home nearby. Is a fish and chip van right for you?

Compared with a hog roast, a fish and chip van gives people a choice of fish, sausage or pie, which suits guests who don’t eat pork.

Questions to ask before booking

  • Any minimum charge
  • What the van needs: space, access, power
  • A clear list of what’s included
  • Any travel, parking or access charges

What a fish and chip van costs

There is nothing hidden: the price is based on:

  • The length of service
  • Access and parking
  • The minimum booking
  • How far we travel

Got a budget? Let us know, and we will suggest how to make it work. A short menu is frequently the best value.

What we need to know

You don’t need everything decided to ask for a quote, but these help:

  • Access details such as gates and narrow lanes
  • Dietary needs, with numbers
  • Roughly how many people, including children
  • The address or venue name

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote: the parking spot, access, numbers and serving time. Photos of the spot and the way in help. When you are ready, use our quote form.

For planners, venues and organisers

For larger numbers, tell us how long you have for food, so we can plan service to match. Sending people up in groups helps.

Having the party at home? Send us a picture of the drive or the spot and the way in, and we’ll let you know if the van will fit.

Should I sort the food myself?

Deep-frying for lots of people at home is risky: big pans of hot oil, children and garden parties don’t mix. Leave the frying to a van built for it.

Some hosts try a takeaway order. Large orders are slow, and the food cools in the bags. A van cooks in front of your guests instead.

Looking after everyone

A little planning makes sure everyone is looked after. Try these:

  • Have bins and napkins near the hatch
  • Flag any coeliac guests, not just gluten-free preferences
  • Put allergy details in writing
  • Have a back-up for anyone who can’t eat from the van

On the day, you shouldn’t have to think about the food. We park, set up, fry and serve, and keep in touch with you about timings.

A chalkboard by the hatch with the menu keeps the queue moving.

Questions from RG7

Is it a full meal?

Yes. Fish and chips with mushy peas is a full meal.

What can guests choose from?

The classics: cod, haddock, chips, sausages and pies, plus mushy peas, curry sauce and gravy. See the menu.

How long are you on site?

That depends on your numbers and timings. We confirm all the timings beforehand.

Does the batter contain gluten?

No, not as standard: batter is generally made with wheat flour. Let us know and we will tell you what we can do.

Can you go on a lawn or field?

Frequently, if the ground is firm and dry. Soft, wet ground can trap any vehicle, so plan a back-up spot.

What about guests who do not eat fish?

We serve sausages and pies as well as fish. Tell us about other diets and we will be honest about what’s possible.

How quickly can you serve everyone?

A short menu and staggered groups keep things moving. We’ll talk it through when we quote.

  • Fried fresh to order in the van at your event
  • Cod, haddock and chips, sausages and pies
  • The van comes to you: homes, venues, workplaces and fields
  • Served at the time you choose, from the hatch
