Planning an event in Dormers Wells?

Corporate fish and chip catering in Dormers Wells, cooked to order

A chip van lunch is one of the simplest ways to say thank you to a team. There is no room to book and no kitchen needed, and people still talk about it the following week. Popular choices include sausage and chips, cod and chips and mushy peas, and we’re regularly asked to cater summer team days and staff thank-you lunches.

Around Dormers Wells, workplace bookings tend to use car parks, yards and loading bays. Facilities teams normally need to approve the van, and access needs planning. We serve from the hatch, so it is hot and generous, and the queue keeps moving.

Why fried-to-order beats a buffet

Compared with a sandwich platter, fish and chips feels like a real thank-you. Many fish and chip vans set a minimum, since getting the van there costs the same however many eat. We will tell you up front.

What you get with us

  • All the chip-shop extras
  • Rain doesn’t stop the fryers
  • Cod, haddock, sausages and pies
  • No kitchen needed

How it works

When we arrive, we position the van, set up the hatch and get the fryers up to temperature. Once we are hot, we cook to order, so we time it to your schedule. Summer events after work in Dormers Wells have light until about 9:20pm; in late May it’s about 8:55pm, and in winter the yard or car park will need lighting.

  1. You share your date, numbers and address.
  2. We check the route in and send a price.
  3. We arrive in good time to set up.
  4. Everything is fried to order as the queue moves.
  5. We serve hot from the hatch and pack up when we’re done.

How to prepare

  • Pick a flat, firm place for the van to park
  • Name one person we can call on the day
  • Check the venue or landowner is happy for the van to park

Our booking checklist

Takeaway run or book a van?

You could do a chip-shop run for everyone yourself, but it rarely works for a crowd. Long waits and a drive home mean food arrives lukewarm and soggy. A van fries it right there, so it is crisp.

Frying for a crowd at home is not a good idea: hot oil and a busy party are a bad combination. A van is designed for exactly this.

About the food

Sausage and chips

For anyone who does not fancy fish, there is sausage and chips, and children love it.

Pie and chips

Pie and chips gives people a filling alternative to fish, perfect with gravy.

Allergies and dietary needs

A little planning makes sure everyone is looked after. Try these:

  • Flag any coeliac staff
  • Confirm allergies by email
  • Have a back-up for special diets
  • A pre-order helps with numbers and allergies

Plan the queue away from vehicle routes in the car park or yard.

A few tables or benches outside make it a proper break.

Before you choose a spot

A fish and chip van is a vehicle, so the spot matters, so a few things need checking. Here’s what we look for:

  • Access wide and high enough for the van
  • Light near the van and the queue for evening service
  • Confirmation that the van can park there

As a London location, Dormers Wells is inside the Ultra Low Emission Zone, and parking takes planning: tell us about driveways, yards, car parks or a council parking suspension.

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise before booking.

From the hatch

  • Cod and chips
  • Staff lunches
  • Haddock and chips
  • Mushy peas
  • Pie and chips
  • Sausage and chips
