Planners, venues and businesses

If your event is in a public place, such as a park or a street, check what permission you need first. The council or landowner will tell you what they need.

Many venues set rules for catering vans: parking spots, arrival times and documents. Send us your venue’s requirements and we will work through them with you.

How our film set catering works in Dagenham Dock

A van can get a crew fed quickly within the lunch break, with no kitchen needed on site. Typical bookings include lunch at the unit base and fashion shoots on location, with sausage and chips, pie and chips and cod and chips.

Shoots in Dagenham Dock often use streets, yards and car parks as unit bases. Locations will have the parking arrangements. Everything is fried fresh at your shoot, never cooked in advance and left in a hot cabinet, and served the moment it comes out of the fryer.

Dagenham Dock is in London, within the Ultra Low Emission Zone, and parking can be tight: let us know about off-street space or permits.

Your questions about a fish and chip van for the crew in Dagenham Dock

Could you trade in Parsloes Park?

Only if the landowner, typically the council, allows it. Check with them first.

Which station is closest to Dagenham Dock?

Dagenham Dock station, about 0.5 miles north of the centre.

What if lunch moves?

Schedules move, and we plan for it. A contact on the day is all we need.

How long are you on site?

That depends on your numbers and timings. We agree arrival, serving and finishing times with you before the day.

Do you fry it on site?

Yes. We cook inside the van, so it is fried on the spot, rather than made in advance.

Can you serve children?

Yes. Children normally love sausage and chips. Tell us how many are coming.

Is grass a problem?

It depends on the ground. Tell us about it when you enquire, and send a photo if you can.

Which areas do you serve?

We cover London and the South East, Greater London included. Find your area.

Why fried-to-order beats a buffet

Ordering takeaway to a location is unreliable. A van cooks at the unit base. The price depends on numbers, the menu and how long we serve, along with distance and access to the site. We quote for each booking individually.

What you get with us

  • The queue at the hatch gets people talking
  • We cook inside the van, whatever the weather
  • Classic food your crew already know
  • Fried fresh, not kept warm

The process

Setting up takes a little while, because the oil has to come up to temperature, so we’re there in good time before you want to eat. On a winter shoot near Dagenham Dock, the light goes by about 3:50pm, so a late lunch or wrap at base needs lighting. In summer, light lasts until about 9:20pm.

  1. It starts with the unit base, dates and numbers.
  2. You get an access check and a quote.
  3. We agree the van’s position and arrival with the location manager.
  4. We serve hot from the hatch when lunch is called.
  5. Afterwards we pack up and leave the unit base clean.

How to prepare

  • Give us your final numbers and allergies
  • Think about a gazebo by the van in case of rain
  • Check the way in for low branches, cables and narrow gates

How to get a price

It’s easy to get a price: tell us the date, place, numbers and serving time. We’ll send a clear quote that says what’s included.

DIY versus a fish and chip van

Not sure whether to order in or book a van? Consider your numbers and how fresh you want it. Ask us for a quote and compare.

Collecting fish and chips for a crowd yourself is possible, but it is hard work. Long waits and a drive home mean food arrives lukewarm and soggy. A van fries it right there, so it’s crisp.

  • Fried fresh to order in the van at your event
  • Cod, haddock and chips, sausages and pies
  • The van comes to you: homes, venues, workplaces and fields
  • Served at the time you choose, from the hatch
